ice cream DIY

Well...it's been on the schedule ALL week but everyday it seemed as if something popped up and we were unable to follow through with our plans. But today we finally had time to make our homemade ice cream! It's a kid friendly do-it-yourself vanilla ice cream which was fun to do as a family and tasted really good too! First, we combined sugar, vanilla and half-and-half in a small baggy.

Then, we placed the small baggy of yummy ingredients into a large baggy containing ice cubes and salt. Next, the fun part...SHAKE UNTIL YOU DROP! You literally have to shake the baggy until the cream turns into ice cream! I think the expression on Maddox's face shows how much fun this step was!
The boys shook their bags for awhile but it takes a good 5 minutes, or so, of shaking so eventually daddy had to step in and finish our dessert! Finally, it was time to EAT! We topped our ice cream with M&M's and dug in...

Aside from the occasional hint of salt (if you make this recipe I would recommend rinsing off the little baggy before opening it) this ice cream was REALLY REALLY good! It tasted just like any vanilla ice cream you've ever had! We enjoyed it and overall it was just FUN!
