DWA at DFW

Our excitement for our visit to the Dallas World Aquarium on Friday started Thursday night when the boys were in the bath. I heard Ashtyn calling for me from inside the tub and he kept yelling, "Mom! Come here and see what I did!" "Mom, come see my aquarium!" When I walked into the bathroom Ashtyn had filled two cups with bath water and put all the hotel shampoos and conditioners inside them! He was very proud and obviously VERY excited to go to the aquarium!

We arrived at the aquarium right at lunch time and so our first stop was the aquarium restaurant on the third floor! We were lucky enough to get seated right next to this glass enclosed atrium that looked down all the way to the shark tank on the bottom floor! While we ate we got to see all sorts of birds, monkeys and the sharks swimming below! Ash posed for a few pics...

but when I asked Maddox for a smile I got a glare instead. This look set the tone for the rest of our aquarium visit. Here's a quick tip for ya..."don't visit the aquarium during Maddox's usual naptime." HA!

After lunch, it was time to start exploring!!

This little bird was sitting right on the railing and allowed us to get pretty close to take some pictures!

Then Maddox got to hand feed a blueberry to these birds!

The aquarium was absolutely PACKED and so we had to wait in long lines to see some animals and didn't get to see some at all...but we hit all of our faves! Going in, the boys really wanted to see the stingrays, octopus and sharks! The hunt for these animals began...
We came upon the stingrays pretty early on!

We almost missed the octopus but I'm glad we didn't! He was really neat to watch! There was, like I said, a very long line to see the octopus and so we didn't get to spend much time in front of his small tank but we got some good pictures and got to see him swim around a bit!

Next up...SHARKS! The sharks were viewed through a walk-thru tunnel. There were benches all along the walls of the shark tunnel and people were just lining them. Finally, someone left and we saw an opening! We hurried to the spot and set up camp to watch the sharks swim over and around us! Ash would get a little bit freaked out when the sharks would swim right next to him but after being inside the tunnel for awhile he got used to it and even took a few pictures of his own!

Lastly we came upon the flamingos and the boys saw an opportunity to use the bincolurs they had purchased at the zoo the day before!

The aquarium really was awesome! We already want to go back! By the time we hit the gift shop, though, Maddox was melting and actually had to be taken outside before we checked out. (By the way, he was asleep before we even got on the highway!) The boys each picked out a life like snake and Ashtyn also chose a toy octopus while Maddox chose a bouncy ball with a shark inside!
Dallas made for a fun family get away! We are glad to be home but are anxious to visit Dallas again! Maybe next time we can actually go ice skating and I will have the chance to shop til I drop at The Galleria! YIPEEE!
