mad mathematician

Yesterday, at Ashtyn's school, they had Mad Mathematician Day!! Maddox and I went to help out if they needed us and also just to have fun with Ash. It turned out that a class of 5th graders was helping with the centers so they didn't really need parent volunteers but Ashtyn's teacher said that I could just participate with Ashtyn and take pictures! They had all sorts of centers set up! With everything from making shapes out of toothpicks & marshmallows, sorting by size and shape, a will it sink or float station, a grocery shopping station, creating patterns, graphing and even leveling scales with chex mix! It took us nearly an hour to complete all the centers!

I think "Will it Sink or Float" was Ashtyn's favorite! We went back to this station a couple of times and Ash almost always guessed the right answer!

I loved watching Ashtyn sort the variety of sports balls. He was so particular about it. He would kneel down and double check his choices as he sorted and even switched some of the other kids answers after they had walked away! He's such a little scientist!

Mad Mathematician Day was so much fun! It was neat watching Ashtyn think through all the problems and use his mad math brain! I think math is definitely going to be one of his favorite subjects throuhgout his years in school!

He looks so confident!
Math must be a real strength for him.

The bad part is that he's looking so grown up!
