knight party of three

Towards the end of the year, Ashtyn's school had a really neat "evening of the arts" where the second grade students had the opportunity to show off all things "art" from the year. They had a ton of art, from art class, displayed in the hallways of the school "art gallery style", each second grade class did a reading restaurant in their classroom and to finish off the night all of the second graders put on a music performance in the cafeteria!

When we first arrived we walked the halls looking at all of the beautiful art! Kids really are brilliant artists! When and where do we lose our ability to just create and not worry about what others might think or say!? There are no wrong answers in art! It is all perfect!

Then it was time to gather for our reservation at the reading restaurant. This was REALLY cool! The second grade teachers had sent home a note weeks before asking you to make reservations to attend their "reading restaurant". You had to write down the time you would be there and how many people would be in your party. When we arrived in the second grade hallway the students were all in their classrooms while the teachers stood in the hallway and called out your party name and number. When we heard "KNIGHT PARTY OF 3" we knew it was our turn!

When we arrived at the "Centennial Roadhouse BBQ" restaurant our extremely handsome cowboy waiter was ready to host us for an amazing restaurant experience! We couldn't wait! Ash showed us to our seats and handed us our menu...

all of the reading menu items were named according with the BBQ theme and listed the price of each item as well. The "prices" were things like "ONE HUG" or "GIVE A HIGH FIVE". The whole thing was very creative and super cute!

Each menu item corresponded to a peice of written work that Ashtyn had done during the school year. For instance the menu's "appetizer" may have been a journal entry and the "blue plate special" was a letter he wrote to a friend. Ash would bring each writing to our table and read it aloud to us! It was neat to see the evolution of his writing (and spelling) over the year!

After we were finished with our "reading dinner" we made our way to the cafeteria where the entire second grade put on a music performance. They did so good and it was, of course, very cute!

My boys are growing up so fast and while I couldn't be prouder or happier with who they are becoming it's still very sentimental and a bit sad to have one evening where you look back at an entire school year and see just how much your babies have grown and changed. It was a beautiful night.
