me 'n maddox

While big brother and daddy were at camp Maddox and I had the whole house to ourselves! Now, I'm not gonna lie here and pretend like it was easier to have just one kid in the house. You would think so wouldn't ya!? But when that kid is Maddox it's even more work for mommy! I love my baby boy more than words could ever say. He's all the things that I'm not and in a good way. He's outgoing and has a humungous personality. Along with such wonderful qualities, though, comes things like excessively talkative and energetic! Ha! Normally, Maddox's "energy" is spread among three other family members and not focused solely on ME!!!! I loved having quality time with my little man and actually getting to have one on one, uninterrupted conversation with him but we did have an afternoon or two that we just HAD to get out of the house and let friends, or even the general public, absorb some of his words and energetic personality! Mommy was worn out!

Maddox missed his brother and daddy very very much! Five days is a long time to be apart. We did a lot of movie watching in our PJ's and eating off the dollar menu at McDonald's.

We had a few unexpected adventures during our time together. On one afternoon we went to Target simply to get out of the house. We walked around looking at toys and clothes. (I think you know who chose what!) About a half hour into our shopping adventure (I was hoping to make this outing last at least two hours...) Maddox decided he wanted to sit inside the buggy. I told him to wait just a minute and I would help him in. As I was setting down my items, though, and turning to give him a hand Maddox was already stubbornly trying to climb over the edge of the cart all by himself! As you can clearly see that didn't work out too well. Maddox's foot got hooked on the side of the cart and he fell face first into the opposite side of the buggy!! It was horrific!! I think it took him (and myself...) a minute to realize what had just happened and then inevitably the wails and sobs followed. I comforted him as best I could right there in the middle of Target. Poor guy. A good sized black eye started forming almost immediately. Suddenly, our two hour Target field trip had turned into a "we need to leave our buggy in the aisle and go straight home now" emergency. I hate to admit that I actually tried to convince Maddox to stay at Target "just a little while longer..." but the poor kid's head started throbbing and we just had to leave. We didn't buy anything at Target that day. We did, however, buy some french fries on the way home! Who doesn't want french fries when they are feeling sad!?

On another afternoon of our week together, we escaped to Jill's house. She and Seth were home and the boys were able to play while the mommies had some grown up conversation. I think this may be one of the only, if not THE only, time I've ever actually invited myself over to someone's house! Ha! The week was coming to an end and both Maddox and I were feeling trapped in the house! WE HAD TO GET OUT!!!!

While we were visiting, Jacob stopped by, who was staying with Doug and Jill at the time, and came inside carrying a teeny tiny baby frog! He was so cute! I think Maddox would've kept him if I had let him!

My sweet baby boy will always and forever be my baby! He may be getting older but there are times I look at him and I still see my chunky baby Maddox with bleach blonde curls and short stubby legs. He's growing into a tender hearted, competitive and yet sensitive boy. He has a lot of words to say and a strong opinion about nearly everything! I wouldn't have him any other way and I wouldn't trade him for the world!

NOW COME HOME DADDY AND WRESTLE WITH THIS ACTIVE BOY SO HE'LL WEAR HIMSELF OUT AND LET MOMMY SLEEP A FULL NIGHT THROUGH!!!!
