This week Ashtyn had his first soccer practice!! Ashtyn announced to us back in August or September of 2009 that he wanted to play soccer but our fall schedule was just too busy to handle another commitment and so we told him he could play in the spring! I have to admit that we meant what we said but were also sort of testing Ash to make sure this is something he really wanted to do. We figured that if it wasn't just a whim and something that someone at school said they wanted to do that the desire to play would "stick" for a few months and he would still want to play come spring! In other words, we didn't want to pay the entry fee and for all the equipment and uniform and them him change his mind! Well, spring registration for pee-wee soccer opened in January and Ash still really badly wanted to participate! So, true to our word, we signed him up! We spent last Wednesday driving all over town to find shin gaurds, cleats, a soccer ball and practice clothes and when Friday evenings practice rolled around Ash was ready to go! Brandon took him to his first practice as I was at Girls Retreat in Oklahoma City. I was sad that I missed out but Brandon said that Ash really enjoyed himself and had a good time! The 5 year old soccer league is all about learning the game and having fun! There are no competitive games or tournaments, it's just sort of about getting our feet wet in a new sport! At this practice they learned to stay in their position on the field and not just chase the ball wherever it goes! I don't know much about soccer but I guess this is an important lesson! This week Ash will have 2 practices and then Saturday, February 27th is Ashtyn's first game! Oh! And I found out on Saturday that Brandon and I will also each be getting a t-shirt with Ashtyn's number on the back and that say "Ashtyn's Mom" and "Ashtyn's Dad" on the front! So cool! Ashtyn's team name is the "Mudcats" and his number is 9!! Be looking for more updates!! We are so proud of him!!

I hope I can see a game!
I remember Kiki chasing the soccer ball around the field. There was this bunch of little kids running around ... like a school of fish!
