"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

spring? where?
They told us for about a week that a snowstorm would be hitting us this last Saturday but when you live in Oklahoma you don't really take a forecast to heart until it's only a day or two before the predicted storm and if the good ol' weatherman is STILL saying it's going to hit then you can prepare...but even then you don't rely too much on the weather forecast because only in Oklahoma can a forecast go from 10" of snow to, oops!, 65 degrees in less then 24 hours! The weather changes quick and it changes drastically around here! So, when Mike Morgan on News Channel 4 told us we would have "blizzard like conditions" on the first day of spring everyone took it with a grain of salt. In fact, when I woke up to a quiet house Saturday morning with Maddox next to me in bed the first thought I had was "there's no snow out there". You couldn't blame me for thinking it. I mean Friday afternoon we had on flip flops and were lounging on our new deck! It was over 70 degrees and stayed warm all the way until the sun set! There was NO WAY that it was that warm when I came in from the deck and then had snowed overnight! I rolled over, in bed, and saw that Maddox was awake. I told him to go look out the patio door and tell mommy if there was snow. Excited, of course, he ran from the bedroom and it only took a moment to hear "THERE'S SNOW OUTSIDE!!!!" Huh...!?!?

Sure enough, it had started snowing sometme in the night and we already had a good dusting when we woke up! Just like the weather man said it snowed ALL DAY and never let up! The snow just kept piling and piling higher and higher!

It snowed for a good 24 hours and at times sorta did look like a blizzard outside. The winds topped out at 50mph at some points and so the snow was blowing around like crazy! Even though it wasn't our "dream" first day of spring it was pretty and it reminded us that was definitely live in Oklahoma! When we woke up Sunday morning that snow was sitting still and quiet and the sun had come out! It was very pretty!

I guess our new deck got exposed to all the Oklahoma elements in one weekend! She held up well! Most of the snow melted Sunday afternoon as the sun warmed up a bit. There's still drifts of snow up against the fence, though, and in shaded areas. The snow was pretty and all and I didn't complain about drinking hot cocoa Saturday afternoon but I'll be the first to admit that spring can hurry up and make a quick return! I'm ready to pull the flip flops out and wear all the spring dresses I've been storing up in my closet but haven't had a chance to put on! I wanna read on the deck with a glass of iced tea and grill out dinner in the evening! Come on spring, sprung already!!
One of my thoughts, I have to admit, when I saw that it actually WAS snowing out was that we would have another couple days of being stuck playing inside. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mind coloring, doing puzzles, watching movies and reading but once we had been teased with warmer temps I was getting used to kicking the soccer ball, swinging, playing tag and wearing the kids out so that they were ready for bath's and bedtime at a more decent hour! However, Saturday the kids played really well together! I was dreading that they would be stir-crazy and get on each other's nerves but I was actually able to capture them (without them knowing!) doing a puzzle together and really working as a team! Way to go boys! It's really sweet to watch!
