Captivating, Mysterious, Enlightening, Intriguing, Stunning, Overwhelming, Addicting
Little did we know Oceanic Flight 815 and its passengers would be so Appealing
We knew from the moment they crashed on a deserted beach at sea
That this would be a show we couldn't quit, its characters more interesting each week
You wove an intricate tale...part drama...part romance...part suspense...
We weren't sure what each coming moment would hold, edge of our seats, holding our breath, fists clenched
We conspired and theorized with friends about the eery and troublesome smoke monster
And each took sides over the years joining Team Jack and Team Sawyer
We couldn't beleive our eyes and were stunned when Michael turned murderer
And clutched our blankets up round our necks when Jacob's cabin appeared in the woods
We cheered from our living rooms when Charlie gave up the drugs
And got all sentimental when he and Claire played house, with Aaron, in a makeshift hut
Through flashbacks we learned where our new best friends did originate
And we fell in love with everyone from an unlucky Hurley to ill-fated Kate
The weaving continued and the storyline became more complex
Our intrigue grew to obsession...what was this show? We're now more then "just friends"
A nation of "Losties" mourned when Charlie breathed his last breath
And we collectively gasped in disbelief when we discovered the flashes were now going forward and not back
Admit it! You cried a tear when Desmond and Penny spoke, though in different years
And I know you felt even a tiny bit sorry for Ben when the life was taken from his daughter in fear
We furrowed our brow when the oceanic six decided to go back and fulfill their destiny
Only to find themselves members of Dharma itself and living in the seventies!
We wondered what would become of the future when boyhood Ben was shot
And when Sun witnessed Jin sink in flames we ourselves nearly screamed in heartbroken pain and shock
We almost couldn't beleive our eyes when Michael and son were allowed to leave
Our fear could be felt round the world when, on the plane manifest, no Ethan was named
I know I breathed a sigh of relief when Juliet confirmed Sun was pregnant by Jin
Peering through parted fingers we watched Sawyer kill Locke's dad, and cringed
We wondered who was more powerful when Ben confronted Charles and warned "You didn't play by the rules..."
And who could forget Richard...anti-aging, unchanging, he seemingly has eternal youth
As each Dharma Station was revealed, to our television sets we were glued
And we committed to memory the hatch numbers...4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42
So many memories have been created and so many friendships formed
Friendships with characters, colleagues and even neighbors you didn't know before
There are more moments then can even be remembered that have shaped Lost into the addiction we know today
How will it end? What is the point? Keep your fingers crossed that we'll find out on Sunday
One thing's for sure, and I think you'll agree, Lost has been a huge part of our lives
Walk with me, if you will, over the past six years and all that's transpired during that time:
A now worldwide phenomenon was launched, you may know it as YouTube
The US population reached a record of 300 million, and grew and grew
Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans and most of the gulf coast
Janet Jackson had a wardrobe malfunction during a Super Bowl Halftime Show
America's homemaker and overall sweetheart, Martha Stewart, spent some time in jail
And politics became humorous when The Colbert Report premiered on the air
Back then, just when tragedy struck Oceanic 815...
A gallon of milk cost under three bucks but now it's pushing three fifty
In 2004 a gallon of gas hit an all time high of two and a penny
How laughable that is now as we're lucky to pay three twenty
A Starbucks Frapp has risen in cost from three eighty six to a whopping four sixty four
While minimum wage has only increased some from six and change to seven and a quarter
World events and the cost of living have grown with us as we took a journey with Lost
And technology changed tremendously with everything from the Flip Camera to the XBox
Who would have thought six years ago when this epic show premiered on our boxy oversized sets
That we'd now be hosting finale parties and watching on wall hanging screens that are flat
I recall like it was yesterday recording missed episodes of Lost on VHS
But now our lives have been revolutionized by DVR where we can pause, rewind and re-watch as many times as we wish
No matter what theory you have built up in your mind
I think universally all Lost fans hope that the last moment of show delivers and satisfies
Whether good or evil prevails and whether or not fake Locke finds his way off the island
We only have one week left to revel and dream, one week left to blog and theorize
Lost has followed us as we wed our spouse, been there as we gave birth to our kids
It kept us intrigued and mystified as we raised our families, changed careers and simply lived
As excited as I am to finally see the fate of my islander friends
Come Monday morning I may need an extra cup of coffee, a tissue or even THERAPY to mend!!
