unexpected gift

Happy Birthday Ashtyn!! Even though he was a bit confused as to why he didn't get ANOTHER party on his actual birthday we still tried to make today special for Ashtyn!! Of course, he's been six for two weeks now since you turn a year older on the day of your party and not your actual birthday (ha!!) but I wanted Ash to know that May 4th is his birthday and do something as a family!! So, we let Ashtyn choose what he wanted for dinner. I didn't even plan on making dinner today because I just knew that I knew Ashtyn would choose a Happy Meal for dinner. BUT, when I asked Ashtyn what he wanted, telling him he could have WHATEVER he wanted, he raised his eyebrows and said "Bacon!" My heart dropped. Any mom will symphathize when I say that I had already cleaned the kitchen after making lunch and didn't have plans on doing it again today...so, I let the "bacon" thing go for the moment and came up with a game plan to gently pursuade him to want a Happy Meal instead. Luckily...IT WORKED!!!! Brandon stopped and got McD's on his way home from work and we all sat down for a quiet, take-out, dinner at home...

Brandon was a bit frustrated (to say the least) when he opened the boys Happy Meals and realized that the McDonald's workers had messed up slightly and given both Ash and Maddox girl toys in their meals instead of matchbox cars. Bummer...right!?!? NOPE!!!! I don't know how. I don't know why. It truly must have been a birthday miracle...but when we pulled Ashtyn's mermaid and Maddox's bikini-clad barbie toy from their Happy Meal bags they both got kind of excited!! Ash was pumped because when you put this mermaid in cold water she changes color and Maddox's barbie came with a comb so you can fix her hair!! Believe me...I'm still CRACKING UP about all of this as I type it but it's totally true!!

Then Ashtyn got to choose a family activity for the evening and, to no one's surprise, he picked playing the Wii. We played 4-player Mario and if you've never done that...well, then you've never lived! It's chaos but oh so fun!

After playing ALL evening it was time for the boys to take showers. Ashtyn wasn't happy about this at all...as you can tell.

But then...he remembered the best part of tonight's shower...HIS NEW MERMAID!!!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!! I mean seriously, this is too hilarious!!!!! I'm not exagerating...I left Ashtyn in the shower (after shampooing his hair) for at least 15 minutes and then went to take him out and he said he wasn't ready! As I approached the bathroom I could hear him playing pretend with his little mermaid! Seriously...not kidding! I know this post, and 6th birthday story, will be horribly embarrasing one day but I couldn't resist!

Maddox did, at the end of the night, brush his barbie's hair and said she "looked beautiful" and then wanted to take her to bed with him! We told him that he should tell Uncle Tyler about his new barbie to which he replied, in a very loud shouting voice, "NO!...I'M...NOT...TELLING...ANYONE...!!!" I don't think he's kidding! Shhhh...this'll be our little secret! Don't tell him we told you! Anyway, to say the least, we had a very memorable birthday at home with Ashtyn as a family! Oh! And did I mention that Ashtyn woke up this morning with his VERY FIRST loose tooth!!! We'll keep you posted on that!!! Ash was a bit nervous when we first discovered his loose tooth and asked "if it would hurt" but after we explained the tooth fairy he seemed a bit more excited, of course!!! It's a front tooth on the bottom that is loose. I almost can't wait for it to fall out! He's gonna look so cute with a toothless smile!

Erika I think this is an awesome story! It shows that he has a heart for the ladies and I think its adorable!
To make you feel better there is a treasure box at school...every Friday the kids get to pick from it. 1 week Nate grabbed the girly googly ring. The teachers apologized and said that is what he picked and told me to tell Jamie sorry. I looked at them odd and said, "I dont have a problem with it" Nate wore that ring all day.
Another Friday out of all the candy and stickers and goodies he picked a girl doll action figure looking thing. He was very proud of it and again played with it all day.
These boys are so much alike its scarry!

An action figure is an action figure! Maybe the mermaid can put bombs on the bottom of enemy ships and the other "action figure" can be a spy!!!!!
