FROM "JUST LAUGH"
This year, for the very first time, our family planted a small vegetable garden in our backyard. We chose a few types of tomatoes, some peppers and a few other favorite veggies and planted them all in a small section at the back of our yard. Just recently, we have been seeing the start of some budding tiny little vegetables! The tomatoes showed themselves first! Right now, they are small and green but we were so excited the first morning we saw them that we all gathered around the garden oohing and aahing over our tiny little plants! Next some corn began to grow and even some green beans and cantaloupe are trying to survive and grow! I can't wait to pick our first veggie and prepare it in our own home! It's so exciting! Well, the last time we went out and checked on the progress of our garden Ashtyn got SUPER excited about all the veggies that were growing! I was surprised at his enthusiasm as he is an extremely picky eater and won't even go near a vegetable at this point. He's one of those kids who gags if you even put something green on his plate! So, as he began to clap and hoot and holler over the garden I asked Ashtyn if he was excited about picking veggies from our garden!? Of course, he said yes and licked his lips as if he wanted to pick something right then and there and eat it! Very confused, I said "Ashtyn, are YOU going to eat something out of our garden?" He nodded excitedly and asked "What do we have??" I started naming off all the veggies we were growing and slowly I saw the wheels in Ashtyn's head begin to turn. He interrupted me and asked with his head cocked to one side "IS THERE BACON??"
Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!! On my goodness...I couldn't believe it!!!! As much as I too wish there was such a thing as a "bacon plant" it was sort of sad to explain to him that , no, we couldn't grow bacon in our garden. HA!!!! I'm not sure if we'll get Ash to eat anything out of the garden at this point...but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!
