Noni came in this week to help me out with the first day of school and with the Pray4Gray fundraising event this weekend. Before the first day of school, though, we wanted to have one last FUN day of summer!! So we invited along our friend Seth and went to the science museum!! SOOOOO much fun!!!!
Noni was with us, of course! It was nice to hang out and visit and watch the kids play and enjoy their time together. We played in the tree house, did gymnastics, explored the shadow stopper box and played in the water table and with the giant bubbles! It was a great (and air conditioned!) way to enjoy the last day of summer break! By the way...I'm pretty sure my boys are fighting in this picture...
After dropping Seth back off at his house, we went and ate frozen yogurt and then headed home for an afternoon swim!
It's really too bad that you have to end your last night of summer vacation by going to bed early. :( It just doesn't seem right. But we were responsible parents and had dinner, the boys took their showers and then it was story time, bedtime prayers and kisses and hugs goodnight. I can tell that Ashtyn is a little nervous about school because he's been thinking WAY too much tonight and keeps asking alot of questions like "Where will I hang my backpack?" and "What time do we eat lunch?" He has such an OCD personality and wants to have every detail worked out in his mind before he tries anything new. (Yes, he gets it from me!) Unfortunately, I didn't have all the answers for him but I know that after the first day, once Ash has the new routine figured out, he'll be way more at ease. Maddox, on the other hand, called my name as I was turning off their bedroom light and walking out of the room. I turned around and he whispered "I'm going to have fun at school!" It made me sad but also helped ease MY fears a little bit too! Their excitement about school is helping me to not be so sad.
At the back to school night, on Monday, Maddox's teacher gave us mom's some homework to do before the first day of school! They will be reading the classic first-day-of-kindergarten book tomorrow called "The Kissing Hand" and so Mrs. Mahan asked us to cut out our own hand print and then decorate it with little encouraging and loving notes on each finger. Then she asked us to put on lipstick and kiss the middle of the hand so that our new little kindergartener could carry it with them on their first day and thus be carrying around a kiss from mommy all day too. It's a very sweet idea but also very heart wrenching for a mommy sending away her little five year old for the WHOLE DAY!!!! Scary!!!! I was happy to decorate my hand print, though, and I hope it helps Maddox feel comfortable and confident tomorrow.
I'll go ahead and admit that I am SCARED TO DEATH about tomorrow. It's going to be hard seeing my baby's walking into school and essentially "not needing me" for an entire day! It makes me proud but it makes me scared and sad all at the same time. Oh how being a mom never ceases to be a mixed bag of emotions at every turn. Sigh. I have a day full of plans tomorrow, though, so I hope the day goes fast. I'm going to my annual "first day of school" breakfast with Jill and then I think my mother-in-law and I may go get pedicures tomorrow afternoon! If nothing else, I guess I'll just eat lots of chocolate and go thru alot of tissue! Ha! Ready or not...first day of school here we come...!!!
