gas guzzler

Last week I survived one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. When I pick the boys up from school, I have to pull the van into one of two car pool lines and wait for my turn to have the kids loaded into the car. Well, last week I pulled into line and it only took a moment for me to realize that I was going to run out of gas. I knew the gas light was on when I left home but I thought for sure I could make it to the school and back considering we live about two miles from the school but apparently I was wrong. Plus, Brandon had the gas card and he was in staff meeting that afternoon and so I didn't want to bother him. Well, that decision ended up costing me my pride when the  van began sputtering and then went dead. I tried desperately to restart it as the cars in front of me began moving forward in line. The cars behind me were starting to get impatient as I myself didn't move forward...but the van wasn't going to start!! Ugh!! So, what could I do!? I put on my hazards and began motioning people around me. I was so embarrassed! I tried not to make eye contact with the other drivers as they passed me. Only ONE other mom stopped and asked me if I needed help. I knew that I had to call someone to help me out and that someone was going to be Brandon...but like I mentioned earlier, Brandon was in staff meeting at work and they aren't allowed to have their cell phones in staff meetings so this was going to be embarrassing yet again. Ugh! Ugh! Ugh! I finally got ahold of Brandon and he left work, ran home to get a gas can, went and filled it up and then came to my rescue. By the time he arrived Maddox's teacher had walked the boys all the way to my van (way back in line...!!!) and so I had to explain myself all over again. She just laughed it off but I was honestly dying. The boys weren't too amused with mommy's little mishap either! Ha! Thankfully, my mistake was easily fixed...besides the fact that everyone was staring at me and I had to pull Brandon out of a meeting...but other then that all I could do was laugh it off. And no one even mentioned it the next day in pick up line...but I made sure to go with a FULL TANK of gas this time!!
