tiger safari or bust

Last week, I went with Ashtyn on his 1st Grade field trip to the Tuttle Tiger Safari!! Neither of us had ever been to the Tiger Safari so we were very excited!!

We had to pack our own lunches for the day. There's something about being a grown up and eating a sack lunch that just makes you feel like a kid again!! So fun!!

When we arrived at the Tiger Safari, the first thing we did was sit in a giant circle while our guide for the day told us about giant turtles! She explained that these turtles were strong enough to carry up to 200 pounds on their backs and so after her lesson the guide let each kid have a turn sitting on the turtle!! It was so cool!! For a few of the kids the turtle actually walked a bit but when it was Ashtyn's turn he just sat there. Ash loved it though!!

After our lesson on turtles, we moved to another seating area where our guide showed the kids several different animals that they could pet. Ash petted all of the animals except the ferret. I think it was because the ferret had very sharp nails and kept scratching kids and so all the kids that took turns holding him before Ashtyn were screaming "Ouch!" and so he got a little freaked out! I can't blame him, I didn't wanna go near the ferret either!

We finally got to see some tigers! The guide even demonstrated how they give the tigers a snack! Obviously, they can't go into the cages with the tigers so they put a piece of raw chicken onto the end of a long stick and then put it through the fence! The tiger loved it! He would jump right up on the fence and eat the chicken in one bite!

Then we saw a big black bear!!

The kids were able to feed some animals! Ash wanted to feed the pig but the line was too long! I was just happy that Ash participated! Go Ash!

The last thing we did at the Tiger Safari was sit in another large circle while our guide brought out a variety of animals for us to pet and learn about. She brought out a snake, a dragon and a kangaroo! So cool!! Ashtyn petted every single one!! I even touched the snake! I was laughing with another one of the mom's because we both agreed it felt like a purse! Ha!!

It's scary to think that Ash is in 1st grade but I'm more then happy that he still WANTS me to go on these trips with him! I'll go as long as he wants me to!
