After the movie we ran back to Aunt Rae's house, changed our clothes and gathered all of our stuff for the beach! There has always been a beach at Kaw Lake right outside Ponca City. That's the beach I grew up going to. But recently, Ponca City opened a new beach even closer to Ponca City on Lake Ponca! It's much cleaner then the old beach and unlike the beach at Kaw Lake this one is FREE! Now that I think of it our entire second day of Camp Cousin was almost totally free! With the exception of snacks. I think we can pat ourselves on the back for that one! Anyway, the kids were super excited to try out this new beach and so was I. The city has done an awesome job with the beach. It's very pretty, quiet, clean and alot of fun!
Right when we pulled up to the beach, even before we were out of our car, BOTH of my kids announced they "had to go to the bathroom". Ugh. We were at the beach...no bathroom in sight. I sighed and told them the only thing I knew to say "You'll just have to go in the lake!" (Don't judge me...) So, while Rae and I unloaded our lawn chairs, a blanket for the kiddos, snacks, drinks, water toys and everything else we needed for an afternoon at the beach the kids took off running toward the water. We didn't park too far from the shade tree we wanted to sit under but it was still quite the trek with all of our stuff. By the time we reached the shaded sand where we would set up camp I looked up just in time to see something that I never thought I would have to witness as a mother. Sure, my kids had taken my advice and were peeing in the lake...the only problem? They hadn't actually walked into the lake before taking care of business. Sigh. Ashtyn was standing there, facing the lake, only standing in ankle deep water just letting it go. Pee shading the entire front of his swimsuit a darker color. While Maddox stood a few feet away from him doing something even worse. He too was standing ankle deep in lake water but had actually pulled his swimming trunks down and was free as a bird going to the bathroom in the lake...an arc of pee visible from any and all directions. OH...MY...GOODNESS...!!! I laughed, cried and lost my breath all at the same time! Wow! I was shocked! I quickly hollered at my boys and told them that they "can't do that" to which Maddox replied "You said pee in the lake!" I guess he was right. What could I do but laugh. Thankfully the lake wasn't TOO busy but there were definitely people close enough to notice. I just hid my face for awhile until hopefully everyone either forgot what had happened or the shock had just worn off. Good grief. I'm not sure I"ll ever get used to life with boys! But at least they keep me on my toes and ALWAYS keep me laughing! That's for sure! And I wouldn't trade any moment for the world. Yes...even these ones...!!!
Maddox had tried and tried and tried to get a perfect form of his bucket in wet sand to stand up but it just kept crumbling! Finally, with some help from his cousin he was able to do it! He was so excited!
We didn't take Noah to the beach with us, he went and stayed with his great gramma...but we still took one of Noah's floaties because it was big enough that the kids could float around on it. What we didn't expect, though, was that the kids would actually put their legs through the holes intended for babies and float around in the lake! Ha! Elia actually did it first but she was too shy to have her picture taken in the toddler floaty. However, when Ash got in he was more then willing to show it off!
Ash built himself a castle on the beach complete with a moat and river running back into the lake. He had to show off the way his river worked! So smart!
I knew we had kids for a reason! Ha! All the kids pitched in and helped us haul all of our "stuff" back to the car! Whew!
We were actually at the beach for about 4 hours! Wow! I didn't expect us to stay there that long. The weather was very hot. But thanks to our large shade tree (and our root beer floats!) we were able to stay the entire afternoon! We left just in time to get home, shower, eat dinner and get to bed so that we would be at least somewhat rested for the next day.
