"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

unexplainable
Ever since he was a toddler Ash has had night terrors. Apparently, night terrors are hereditary and so since Brandon had them as a kid he obviously passed them on to Ash. Poor boy. If you've never had a kid who experiences night terrors then there's really no way to explain it. It's awful. When Ash has night terrors he literally has his eyes open and can get out of bed and walk around but he's still asleep. He is frightened of everything (including US!) and talks about all the things that are "scary". It's the most bizarre thing I've ever witnessed and, after all these years, still scares me each and every time he has one. Of course, we've talked to our pediatrician about this and he has told us how to deal with them and also explained that when Ash is over tired or sick that his night terrors may "flare up" or become more severe...and sure enough, when Ash was sick last week and running a fever he had a night terror two nights in a row. All we can do when Ash is experiencing a night terror is let him go through it. We mostly keep him "wrangled" in the living room and do our best to keep him sitting down because now that he's so big and much stronger then he was as a toddler if he gets up and moves around it's much harder to control his terrifying outbursts. Eventually, though, Ash calms down and falls back asleep and he never ever remembers anything that happened during a night terror. He's even woken up in the living room after having a night terror but before we had a chance to move him back to his bed and asked us how he got to the sofa. Very weird. I'm hoping that as the years go by Ash will grow out of having night terrors. It's definitely something we could live without.
