western days parade

Last weekend, Mustang had Western Days!! It's a fun filled weekend the city has when the rodeo is in town. There is live music, the carnival sets up in the center of town and, of course, there's a parade!! We've lived here for 3 years and we've NEVER gone to the Western Days Parade. There's always been something else going on or we were out of town or something and so this was our first time ever to experience it. Unfortunately, Brandon had to work but the boys and I weren't about to miss out so we got up, got ready and headed to the main road to find a prime viewing spot. We had to walk quite a distance but we finally found an open spot right on the curb and set up shop. We were excited!!

Once the first candy was thrown the boys perked up a bit!!

Firetrucks are always fun in a parade.

Part of the Thunder drum line team went by in the back of a truck!! They played LOUD and we all cheered for our Thunder!!

The Army band was also a big hit!! Since the boys' uncle served in the army they get super excited ANY time they see men in uniform.

Maddox even got a direct wave from a military man riding on top of this vehicle!! Made his day!!

Maddox ACTED embarrassed when the cheerleaders waved at him but I'm pretty sure he was secretly excited...

and then Maddox REALLY showed his excitement when the football team came by!! They were handing out candy and giving high-fives. I think Maddox may have actually been MORE excited about the high-five!!

Ash, on the other hand, was the MOST excited to see Ronald McDonald in the parade. If you know Ash then you know that McDonald's is his FAVORITE place to eat and seeing Ronald McDonald in the parade truly made Ashtyn's day!! He kept saying "I can't believe he's here!!" and "I can't believe I got to see him!!" It was really cute!!

We got SO much candy and didn't come prepared with a bag to put it in so we started storing it in Maddox's hood!! Ha!! It worked, for awhile at least, until a group came by handing out a plastic bag of information about their business and we quickly nabbed one so that we could put all of our candy in there. Lesson learned!! Now we know to come prepared next year...

The shriners on four-wheelers were actually very entertaining. They did all sorts of cool tricks!!

We can't ever figure out how grown men fit into these cars...it's a mystery...

We ended up leaving the parade a little bit early. We headed home with our candy loot and spread it out on the table. I think we made out pretty well!!
