quizzing lizard

This year, Ashtyn joined the Junior Bible Quiz team at church. It's not something we originally planned on doing but when one team was short a member the coach approached us about Ash joining and when I asked Ash if he was interested he was VERY excited so we decided to give it a try. We worked hard to help Ash memorize his questions and answers to prepare for his very first meet. Just over a week ago he was as ready as he'd ever be and we met at the church EARLY on a Saturday morning to travel to a local Oklahoma City church for our first ever JBQ Meet! I was excited but Ash was clearly even more excited then me! Oh...and it was "Crazy Hair Day" at JBQ and so Ashtyn's coach had asked me to spike his hair up as high as we could! I think we succeeded! Ash was pretty proud of his new do!

I was working as a score keeper at the meet and so had to go to a meeting as soon as we arrived at the host church. When I came out of my meeting I had been sent a picture from Ashtyn's coach showing his team of crazy hair JBQ-ers! Ha! Not only was Ashtyn's hair still spiked but it was now blue as well! That's definitely crazy! Ashtyn's team is called the "Quizzing Lizards" and they all had on their matching tees and, of course, their crazy hair! I think they're ready to win some JBQ matches!

My view for the day...I actually had a lot of fun keeping score at the JBQ Meets. I have to admit, though, that it was really hard when Ash was quizzing in my room (and sitting directly across the table from me!) not to encourage him and give him high fives! Ha!

After seven rounds of competition, at the afternoon awards ceremony, Ashtyn's JBQ team came in 4th out of seven teams!! Wow!! Myself and Ashtyn's coaches were very proud!! This was every single kids on our team's first meet and so we couldn't have been happier for them. They did so good!!

I couldn't be there because I was keeping score in another room but during Ashtyn's last meet he quizzed out, which means he answered five questions correctly and so had to be taken out of the match. You are only allowed five correct answers or three incorrect ones! I was so proud! In the end, Ash had received a sticker for quizzing out and a sticker for answering the mystery question! Good job Ash!

Ash also got a coupon for a free frozen yogurt for his cool blue and spiky hair!

We truly enjoyed our first JBQ experience and are excited for the next one. When all the scores came in Ashtyn was the second best quizzer on his team! I think we've found Ashtyn's niche!
