"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

FROM "JUST LAUGH"
This past week, as you all know, Ashtyn had to get stitches. He was goofing around on the top bunk and had an accident where his forehead met the railing of the bed. Oops. So, as you can imagine, ever since then (and before we go back to the hospital to get the stitches removed) we have been making sure Ashtyn is very careful while playing and have almost completely banned any type of rough housing. I know it stems from a little bit of paranoia but also the doctor's warned us that if Ashtyn broke open one of his stitches after we left the ER that first night there is nothing they can do to further rapair his head. We don't want him to have an even larger scar then already possible, so, obviously, we have been keeping a close eye on him and making sure the boys play calmer things like coloring, puzzles and video games. It's cold and rainy out anyway so it hasn't been too difficult. Sunday night, however, the boys were getting somewhat restless of being couped up inside and not wrestling around with daddy over the weekend like normal and so as I cooked dinner they were getting kind of rowdy in the living room. Brandon turned around just in time to see Ashtyn jump from the sofa to the chair. I knew we probably overreacted a bit but we quickly ran to Ash and explained that he cannot be rough or rowdy right now and that his head won't heal if he continues to jump and run inside the house. Ash obediently calmed down and went back to the sofa to sit and watch his cartoon. Not even a moment later, however, I came around the corner and saw Maddox climbing onto the arm of the sofa poised and ready to pounce onto the chair. I couldn't beleive my eyes! He had been sitting right there when we got onto Ashtyn for the exact same thing. Brandon stepped in and got onto Maddox telling him that "the furniture isn't a jungle gym" and "we don't stand on the sofa". Maddox looked a bit puzzled and with all sincerity and the confusion of a three year old mind said... "But I don't have stitches!" HA! What can ya say to that!?!? He was right!

You're right ... he was as serious as can be! His logic is perfect 3-year-old wisdom. But I fear that one episode with body pain (and stitches) is not going to be enough to create the "I don't think I should do that" memory. Sorry Uck!
