The only thing (and one huge thing) that we didn't plan for while traveling on Christmas Day was the fact that absolutely, positively NOTHING was open. We were on the road for over 10 hours without a real meal! We spent our day munching on bags of chips, candy bars and crackers from the rest stops. I even broke down and ate a $4 hot pocket from the gas station! Yes...that's $4 bucks for one single pepperoni hot pocket! Finally, with only an hour left in our drive we found a Wendy's that was open and were able to eat dinner. If we EVER plan to travel on Christmas Day again we'll be packing some sandwiches for a picnic in the car. We got to our cabin in Colorado late in the evening where Uncle Nay-Nay and Aunt Dana were already waiting. Noni, Papa, Uncle Tyler and Aunt April didn't arrive until after we had gone to bed. We had to get some good sleep, though, because we had big plans for the next day!!!!

She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

day of driving
Early Saturday morning, Christmas Day, we got up for our drive to Colorado for vacation with Brandon's family!! We had dropped Charlie off with the doggy-sitter the night before and so we were ready to go. Trying to save some money we decided to take Brandon's Prius instead of the van. Great idea to save a few bucks...CRAZY idea for space!! Ha!!!! We were JAM PACKED inside that tiny car!! I kept teasing Brandon that it felt like we had taken all of our luggage and our entire family and decided to load it all into our tiny bathroom and just hang out for 12 hours!! Ha!!!! In the end, the ride wasn't really all that bad and it got us to and from Colorado just fine!
We finally made it to "Colorful Colorado" and I FORCED my family to take a picture with the state sign. (Even amid all the sighs from the men in my life...) I think the picture will be a memory we won't regret!
