"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

sick...sick...and MORE SICK
Wow. I don't know if I've ever gone this long without updating my blog. It's not for lack of desire, though, it's because I've been crazy busy taking care of my two sick little boys. Between temperature taking, forcing them to drink fluids, begging them to take their medicine and simply rubbing their backs when they're crying I haven't had a chance to document our lives. The boys have been battling be sick off and on for several weeks. First they had some sort of 24 hour flu bug and then shortly after they both started running low grade fevers, coughing and having lots of congestion. At first, I thought it was just allergies. I mean, it IS March in Oklahoma. The wind has picked up, the trees are trying to bloom and we're all suffering from watery eyes and lots of sneezing. When the allergy meds weren't doing the trick, though, and the fevers kept rising I finally took Maddox to urgent care over the weekend. They told me he had a respiratory infection and sent me home with a basic antibiotic. Well...unfortunately they were WRONG...VERY VERY WRONG!! (I'm not too happy with urgent care...) So, after another week of fevers and missing more and more school I finally gave in and called the boys pediatrician. He told me to bring them in and so yesterday morning we drove to the doctor. The boys were so sick by this point that Maddox refused to walk or even stand long enough to put on his pants. Ashtyn was dozing off at every moment. All he had to do was sit for a brief minute and he was out! They were so sick! Once the doctor looked them both over he said it was a very good thing I brought them in. After listening to the boys' chests Dr. Albiek said that the boys had such bad rattling in their chests that they sounded like adult smokers!!!! And he said the rattling was very deep!!!! Yikes!!!! He diagnosed them both with bronchitis. He also said that their bronchitis was caused by a strain of bacteria that is very resistant to antibiotics. (In other words, the meds urgent care gave Maddox were never going to work. What a waste of $40!!) Anyway, so now the boys are each on two different prescriptions and were ordered to stay home for 3-4 days. The doctor said they are very contagious. He also said they need to REST, REST, REST and drink hot tea with honey. Now, we're 24 hours into our new meds and while I've seen an improvement in both boys Ash is still in bed as I type (it's 9:30 in the morning!) and both the boys still have fevers. I forced them to eat something this morning so they could take their medicine so hopefully it'll keep doing what it's supposed to do. It's been a long few weeks and an even longer two days (and two nights!) but I think we're finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! Plus, with spring break next week, and big plans to visit family in Ponca City, I'm just happy to know that they should be healthy and ready to go by then! After this week, though, mommy may need her very own spring break vacation! Ha! I see garage saling with my sister in my future!! :)
