"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

"we interrupt this program"
Tonight we were supposed to be going to Ashtyn's school for his Kindergarten graduation ceremony...but instead we were huddled in the hallway closet, tornado sirens blaring, with the news on and a literal tornado outbreak happening across our state! The weather men had been warning us for at least 7 or 8 days that this would be an unstable day and they weren't kidding! It started just after school let out. Storms began firing up all along the dry line just west of Mustang and are still springing up across the state as I type this, over five hours later! At one point our sirens in Mustang did go off and so we got the boys into the hallway closet and collected pillows and blankets to be ready just in case...
Brandon stayed in the living room keeping a close watch on the weather...
The aftermath is HORRIBLE!! We are safe and sound but so many are not. The number of deaths rises with each update and the damage reports are even greater. Trucks and cars were picked up, flipped over and moved across roads. Homes have been demolished all the way to the foundation. During the latest news update they told us of a 3-year-old child who is missing. The child was literally sucked out of the bathtub where he and his mother had taken shelter from the storm and now cannot be found. The mother has been taken to the hospital. It's just so awful. It's so sad to think that this could have just as easily been us as any other family in our area. It's devastating...just devastating...

We definitely would have much rather been at Ashtyn's graduation this afternoon then sitting on the edge of our seats, shoving the kids in the closet and praying for all those who weren't able to escape...but, in the end, we are so grateful to be in our home, safe and knowing that our friends and family are all safe. I feel awful, though, for all those who can't say the same. Unfortunately, Ashtyn's graduation will not be rescheduled. :( They only have a couple days of school left and no time to hold the graduation. It's disappointing but it was better to be safe then sorry. I understand why the school made the decision to cancel. In the end, Ash still completed kindergarten and we will just have to reward him with lunch and ice cream in the next couple of days to celebrate!!
