traditions

I love coloring Easter Eggs with my boys! It's something we've done since they were old enough to sit up and something I hope I can force them to do until the day they move out! Ha! (Okay, I know that's a stretch but a girl can dream...!!!) We've gone from coloring eggs with toddlers who broke nearly every single egg and put more eggs in their mouths than they did in the dye to coloring eggs with big boys who can color their eggs pretty much all by themselves, be creative and have fun doing it!

I always love to see how my boys' polar opposite personalities come out in every day life...including in coloring their Easter Eggs. Ashtyn is very methodical and slow about coloring his eggs. He takes the time to come up with something creative for each and every egg, thinks carefully about what color each egg should be (it has to match!) and doesn't like when anyone disrupts his space...

Maddox, on the other hand, is haphazard...coloring eggs here and there. He drops eggs in a variety of colors until some of them come out a weird mixture of many crayon colors and many dyes. He lines his eggs up with no thought to the fact that they could roll off the table at any minute and he is always rushing to get done FIRST! Everything is a competition to him.

Despite their vast differences, though, they always have fun together!

I think Ash drew himself on one of his eggs!

And there it is! You can see each of their distinct personalities in this one picture alone...

I was quite proud of the one egg I dyed myself. There were an odd number of eggs after I hard boiled them and so I kept one for myself so everything would be fair and square for the boys. I'm by no means a professional egg dyer but this turned out pretty cool!

I know my boys are growing up and it's not lost on me that the egg dying years ahead are numbered in our house but I'm going to enjoy every single childlike moment I have...and Easter Egg dying and hunting is definitely one of my favorites!
