My boys have recently really gotten into wrestling. Not high school, on the mat, dropping weight wrestling but 1980's style, hitting each other with a chair wrestling. I can honestly say that I NEVER thought I would see so much wrestling stuff in my house. Growing up with only sisters all I've ever known is Rainbow Brite, Care Bears and My Little Pony. Oh! And who could forget Strawberry Shortcake!? Love! But with a husband who was a kid in the 80's and now two boys of my own it was bound to happen. They were first introduced to old school wrestling by their friend Seth who showed them some wrestling videos online. They were hooked instantly! Within weeks we owned wrestling video games and were practically eating, sleeping and breathing all things wrestling. I still don't know many wrestlers names and when my boys speak "wrestling lingo" including weird names of moves and "finishers" (whatever that is) I do my best to keep up and join in. It's not easy for this girly girl but I'm giving it my all!
A few weeks ago, a friend of ours from church who is a member of the praise and worship team, brought a very thoughtful gift to my boys. He found some of his old wrestling action figures and accessories from when he was a kid and gave them to Brandon thinking our boys might like them. MIGHT like them???? More like OBSESSED!!!! They received the hand-me-down gift on a Wednesday night and even though we got home from church way past bedtime we had to take some time to play with the new toys. There were tons of action figures included for the boys as well as mini chairs and ladders that they can play matches with. These "new to them" toys have become their favorite things to play with, next to their wrestling video games of course. Thank you Keith for thinking of our boys and sharing a piece of history with them that is becoming new once again. I may never understand it but I don't think I'm going to get anyone in my house to play with a Rainbow Brite doll anytime soon so I'm going with it!
