so many pictures, so little time

Yep...I'm THAT mom! Someday, when my boys are grown, I will pull out thousands and thousands of pictures from their first days of school alone! Taking an obscene amount of pictures as your kids get ready for school on their first day each year is something we all swear we will never do and yet there's something that happens to you when you become a mom and you simply can't seem to put the camera down! It's a disease but one that we mom's happily embrace. This year my boys started 2nd and 3rd grade. I say it every year, but I don't know where the time went.

This year the boys school moved back their morning start time and the boys now have to be at school a full 20 minutes earlier than they did last year. Ugh. It hasn't been as bad as I was dreading but it's still not easy. Especially when you're trying to feed two growing and energetic boys a good breakfast! The breakfast of choice for today was waffles and bacon! (Now, don't think too highly of me, I precooked the waffles and froze them days earlier and bought precooked re-heat bacon...)

The boys were equipped with new backpacks and new tennis shoes and ready for the day! Maddox wasn't nearly as excited to be going back to school as big brother but he likes his teacher and really does love to learn...he just won't admit it! He still says lunch and recess are his favorite "subjects."

Ash absolutely couldn't wait to start school! He loves the structure, he loves to learn and, of course, he loves recess too! What boy doesn't!? His favorite subjects are science and math.

My boys couldn't be more opposite. I know most parents say that but if you know my kids than I think we may truly take the cake on this one. We're still not sure how they both came from the same parents! We are so lucky, though, that despite their brotherly bickering they love each other very much. They play together, act silly together, laugh together, pretend together and are growing up together in a beautiful way.

It's always a mix of emotions when my little guys walk out of the door on the first day of school. There is a sense of sadness and desperation that time is going by entirely too fast and a bit of a mid-life crisis feeling that I'm not remembering enough moments or spending enough time with my boys. But there is also a sense of relief. Motherhood is so confusing. I, like Ashtyn, enjoy the routine and schedule of the school year. I am a creature of habit. Unfortunately, along with that comes the passing of time. As much as I hate to see my boys growing so fast I also love each new phase we enter. Our kids are no longer toddlers who need us for every little thing but are instead almost like tiny adults with whom we can have real conversations and do a whole new world of activities with. Parenthood is a mixed bag of emotions but I wouldn't have it any other way. Here's to a new school year and growing another year older together.
