That's right people, a snow day in Oklahoma is still blog making news! We don't get many snows that actually accumulate and stick around and so when we do it's a big deal! This year we've already had two such snows and I can only hope and pray for many, many more! (In case you haven't noticed, I love winter!!!!) As the snow fell I was growing more and more eager to pick up my boys from school and get outside and play!
When the snow stopped falling we had several inches of heaven standing outside. Beautiful! The boys and I bundled up and headed out right away! The snow wasn't sticky, unfortunately, it was more powdery and fluffy and so it didn't make good snow men or igloos or even snow balls...but we still had a blast. We improvised by making snow piles instead of igloos and snow angels instead of snow men. We even threw showers of powdery snow at each other!
Maddox entertained himself by pounding the snow off the trampoline, watching it spray into the air and fall back to the ground. Okay...I watched...he was more into the pounding!
We played until Maddox said to me, "Mom, my fingers don't even feel cold anymore!" He thought this was a good thing but as a responsible adult (of course!) I knew that meant it was time to go in. (My mom guilt snuck up on me for even letting them stay out that long and CONFESSION TIME I checked Maddox's fingers several times before he went to bed...) We tugged ourselves out of our frozen winter gear, put it all in the dryer to defrost and then snuggled together for some afternoon cartoons.
So far, since the new year, our temperatures have been more average or even above normal. As much as a I love a 55 degree, sunny day (also perfect for playing outside after school!) I am truly wishing for at least one more (ten or twenty more would be amazing!) snow days in the near future. You never know, living in Oklahoma, if you will get them so when it happens you have to enjoy every second!
