undefeated

Last Saturday Ash had his final section JBQ meet of the season. His team quizzed 6 matches and ended the day undefeated! His team has gone undefeated the ENTIRE SEASON! Every time I watch Ash quiz I think back to when we were initially asked to be a part of this team. It was a Sunday night at church and we were only asked because the team had lost a member and needed someone else before the season started. They were desperate. I was hesitant at first and wasn't sure if this was something we should commit to but after asking Ashtyn if it was something he would want to try his excitement washed away all my doubts! I knew we had to give it a shot! Two years later Ash still loves quizzing and he loves his team just as much! We have a great coach, which makes the season that much more enjoyable and when I watch Ash buzzing in, answering questions and quoting scripture I just melt. This is what Ash loves! And he's good at it too!

After the final section meet of the season, we ate pizza for lunch while the JBQ directors presented the kids with awards for the season. By the end of the ceremony Ash had received THREE medals! First, his team earned a certificate for winning first place in the meet. Ashtyn's team also each received a medal for winning first place for the entire season. Ash got two personal medals as well! He got one for the being the overall 10th place quizzer for our section this entire season! We are so proud of him! I was not expecting that award and Ash is still beaming days later from his win! Ash also received a participation medal with two gold stars attached to the lanyard representing his two years of quizzing. Each year he quizzes he will receive another gold star to go with this medal and after you receive six stars, representing six years of quizzing, you receive a special commitment medal.

When I first had boys I thought for sure I would one day be sitting in awards ceremonies where they received medals but if I'm being totally honest I thought it would be for sports BUT I'm truly lucky enough to have one son who is winning awards for his academic work and another who will undoubtedly win awards for brawn more than brains. I couldn't be more blessed. Congratulations Ash! Now we are looking forward to the statewide JBQ meet at the end of the month! I believe in you Quiz Nerdz! Let's quiz our hearts out and have a ton of fun doing it! (And beating some other teams wouldn't be so bad either...!!! If you can't tell I was the one winning awards for sports myself!)
