In the blackout of 2010 we learned many lessons. (cue sentimental music) During the deepest and most intense moments of darkness we were forced to look hard out ourselves and discovered anew our love and appreciation for each other as a family. We learned the importance of face to face conversation, we rediscovered the joy of laughter and most importantly...WE LEARNED THAT WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT THE KIDS GRAB THE NEAREST "NON-ELECTRICTY REQUIRED" VIDEO GAME AND START PLAYING!!!! (sentimental music comes to a screeching halt!)
Our power went out here in Mustang (at least in part of the city) for about an hour! The news had been telling us for about 4 hours this afternoon that if we made it until 7PM without losing our power that we were most likely in the clear and of course at 6:30PM our power flickered a couple times and then went pitch black. The kids were in the back bedroom playing and I was in the living room. They sort of freaked out but we quickly lit some candles and gathered in the living room. For a moment the blackout seemed sorta fun!! Each of the boys had their own flashlight. Ash settled in on the sofa safe and sound with his flashlight while Maddox bounced up and down the hallway hunting tornadoes with his. (I think he thinks it's a different kind of storm outside!) But it didn't take too long for the boys to reach for the DS and Nintendo. Ash sat in that same spot on the sofa and played Mario while Maddox played a brief round of games and then ate a peanut butter sandwich by candlelight. Brandon and I also ate in the dark and just as soon as we thought we were probably going to spend at least the rest of the night without power the electricity flickered back on at 7:30PM. It was a brief hour without lights but it's amazing how much longer that hour seems without all the modern conveniences...although, it was still sorta fun! Of course, it wouldn't have been fun at all had the blackout lasted hours that turn into days but when it's only an hour it can be considered an adventure!
Hope you've enjoyed our "live reporting" of the Ice Storm 2010 today!! Look for more updates tomorrow of the Beautiful Snow 2010...unless, of course, something else worth blogging about happens tonight!!

God would never allow 44,000, surely.....You all are troopers...by the way...I did not hear dad's voice at all while the lights were out??? Oh Brandon where are you hiding? Love, Noni
I love the Mario game that Ashtyn was playing (can hear the music). :) Looks like you guys had a blast with that storm. CRAZY!!!!!!!!
By the way...your poll. It needs to say "All of the Above". I can't choose just one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahh!
Was Maddox concerned about his sandwich the entire hour?
The weather is very screwy! It's cold here but I just watched the weather channel and they aren't calling for any precipitation for at least the next 7 days. It's just not fair!!
Erika this was awesome! They are so cute!
