leap of faith

Yesterday, before the rain started, we actually had a pretty nice day outside! It was a bit chilly but the sun was shining and it was nice enough to get outside and play! I pushed Maddox on the swing for a bit but then had to get inside to make lunch and so I left the boys outside. I was watching them from the kitchen window when I saw that they had a built a make-shift bridge out of the sandbox lid and were pondering jumping over the sandbox. Now, what makes this a bit more interesting is that the sandbox had been left open the last time it rained and so there is standing water and wet sand in the sandbox! Ashtyn was first in line but, in true form, was a bit nervous to make the leap of faith. Maddox on the other hand, was second and in line and pressuring his big brother to jump...
Ashtyn thought maybe his lightsaber could help him in some way make it over the mud pit (which I'm sure seems way bigger when you are 5 years old then it does in real life) but when he didn't succeed he got out of line and let Maddox go ahead of him.

Maddox, of course, had NO problem making his way over the sandbox. He lept without a second thought and landly safely on the grass!

And then he jumped again and again!

This jump, however, didn't end well and he landed on top of his pretend bow and arrow set. It did leave a little scratch on his chest. After crying for just a moment, Maddox hopped right back up and began jumping again.

Ashtyn decided to give this "jump" another shot and so cautiously tried to walk over the pit by using the sandbox trucks as stepping stones. They were too unstable, though, and Ashtyn pulled back.

Poor Ashtyn really wanted to jump over the sandbox so bad. He would just walk up the "lid bridge" and stand at the edge of the wet sand just trying to work up the courage to leap forward...

He even started to jump once but his attempt was a bit too cautious causing him to fall right where he stood...poor guy...

FINALLY...Ashtyn found the courage to attempt this huge jump and leapt out! I can't even tell you how proud Ash was of himself! He didn't make the jump a second time but he sure didn't let us forget that he had jumped it, even if it was just that once!

Let's keep our fingers crossed for many more sunny days ahead!
