six flags or bust

Parking $15...Lunch $55...the T-Shirt $18...a day at Six Flags as a family PRICELESS!!!! Today, we got up bright and early (well actually before the sun came up) and got ready to head to Dallas to visit Six Flags Over Texas! Ashtyn has been asking for MONTHS to go and so we decided to celebrate the beginning of summer with a day trip to the theme park! We left our house at about 6:50AM, stopped at McDonald's and got on the road! We were way to excited to be tired!
About an hour into our 3 1/2 hour drive we started hearing the age old question "Are we there yet?" When we finally saw "Welcome to Six Flags" EVERYONE in the car was relieved and excited!!!

We couldn't wait to get inside! We got to the park just as it opened at 10:30AM!

First things first, we went through the children's area! I had never been to this part of Six Flags as I had never come with kids before but it was really cool! We knew that Ash was tall enough to ride some bigger rides but Maddox was sort of a question mark. We measured him at home and came up with a measurement of 41 3/4" and most grown-up rides require you to be 42" to ride with an adult if not even taller then that! So, just to make sure Maddox got his share of thrills we started off small. I'm glad we did, too, cause it turns out that Maddox was a bit scared of the rides! We were kind of surprised that he was considering he's our "dare devil" but he was actually a bit cautious! It only took a couple rides, though, before he caught the thrill seeking bug and he was ready to ride! We found out later, too, that he was JUST tall enough to ride some bigger rides. Not the real big stuff but they let him sneak by on a couple of other things!

Ummm...Maddox was just a bit under the "ride alone" height requirement for this ride and so Brandon was elected to go with him! (Can you see how nervous Maddox is?) I love in this picture, though, the kid sitting next to Ashtyn...he's looking down at Brandon like "what's HE doing on here???" HA!!!! He does look a bit out of place...

We were able to ride the kids ferris wheel as a family! It was alot of fun!

The kids roller coaster was a big hit too! They rode this twice in a row! Ashtyn was as brave as could be today! He even rode several rides in his own seat and wasn't afraid to ride by himself!

The swings were more Ashtyn's speed for some reason! He had a blast! Maddox didn't really care for them! I was cracking up because everytime they came flying around Maddox was just staring, blank-faced, into space...not even caring he was on a ride! Ashtyn, on the other hand, was pumped!! He was kicking his feet and smiling ear to ear!!!

Lastly, in the kids area, the boys flew in the airplanes. They had to ride in separate planes and afterwards Maddox was quite upset because the boy sitting in the plane with him wouldn't let him work the controls. He was "hogging them"...

We also rode the "Batwing" as a family! Brandon rode with Maddox and I rode with Ash. The boys could control how high you flew on this ride too! In case you wondered...we spent the whole ride AS HIGH AS IT WOULD GO!!!! No surprise!!!!

We had promised Maddox that if he rode the Batwing that we would go to the Gotham City Sprayground, which is a playground with water shooting up from the ground so you can play and cool off...well, when we got the sprayground it was closed. Oops! Let's just say, Maddox wasn't happy. So, we had to find some other way to get wet and what better way then in the roaring rapids!! It's the ride, ya know, where you sit in the big round inner tube boat and float down the rapids getting SOAKED in the process!?!? Well, let's just say that OUR family either chose the luckiest seats or the not-so-luckiest seats depending on your point of view. By the end of the ride we were the only four people on the boat who were SOAKED from HEAD-TO-TOE!!!! Check us out! It took forever to dry!

Since we were already wet we decided to go ahead and do the Yosemite Sam and Log Flume Rides. Ashtyn really loved the Yosemite Sam ride but it scared Maddox. The Log Flume was a HUGE hit for the whole family though!!!

Oh...and we also let the boys drive! I think we're gonna need EXTRA lessons when they turn 16! HA!!!!

The only Log Ride pic before the HUGE drop!!!!

The boys were pretty excited to see "the guy from the Six Flags commercial"!! We still don't know his name but Maddox was more then eager to take a picture with him!! Ashtyn wouldn't take a pic and said "that's just a costume..."

After we made our way ALL AROUND the park we ended our riding day with a spin around the Carousel!!!

Finally, we took the boys into the gift shop to pick out a souvinier!! Maddox chose (no surprise here...) a Batman sword that lights up and makes sound and Ashtyn chose a Batman figurine. We also got them each a t-shirt! As daddy was paying, Maddox noticed that Bugs Bunny was at the photo-op center and nearly hurt himself running toward him!! He was yelling "Buzz Buzz Bunny! Buzz Buzz Bunny!" (I'm not sure where that name came from but that's what he calls him! Ha!) We made it to Bugs Bunny JUST in time and were the LAST kids to get a picture before the toon characters had to go back inside! Whew!

After our pic with the local celebrities, we were going to walk back and let the boys ride a couple of their favorite rides over again...but as we started making our way back to the Runaway Mine Train we noticed that a HUGE mass of people (literally everyone in the park) was headed back toward the exit. We were practically the ONLY ones going the opposite direction. We finally figured out that lightening had been spotted. It had been sprinkling off and on throughout the afternoon but while we were in the gift shop the clouds had built up a bit more and they looked pretty dark and stormy. Along with the news of lightning we found out that they were shutting down the rides until the storm passed. By this time, though, we had been in the park 6 hours and it was only scheduled to be open for another hour and a half so we decided to take our sore, sunburnt, hungry selves back to the car. Maddox had gotten a blister from his flip flops and so begged to be carried and then actually fell asleep in Brandon's arms on the way to the van. I wanted a picture so bad but when Brandon stopped so I could snap the pic Maddox opened his eyes. He was so worn out...
Once we got into the car and I pulled down my sun visor and got a glance of myself in the mirror I couldn't help but wonder..."How is it that no matter how much time you spend on your hair, make-up and outfit when you get ready to visit Six Flags you still look like you've been RUN OVER BY A TRUCK when you leave Six Flags????" Hmmmm. I guess I learned a lesson today...DON'T DO YOUR HAIR WHEN YOU ARE GOING TO SIX FLAGS!!!! HA!!!!
We knew the boys would probably fall asleep on the way home but we were surprised when Maddox didn't doze off until about 20 minutes from home! I think they were too pumped up with their new souviniers and just the whole Six Flags experience! Once Maddox did fall asleep, though, he fell hard! He was all slumped over and we couldn't wake him... HA!!!! I'll admit it, I was jealous!!!!
Once we got home we quickly got the boys in and out of the shower and into bed. It didn't take long for them to fall fast asleep! I'm not far behind them, either...I'm headed into bed RIGHT NOW!!!! Our little mini staycation continues tomorrow when we will see Shrek, finally set up the backyard pool and then grill out! I can't wait!!!!

The "wet family" memories came rushing back when I saw your pictures after the river ride...remember standing on the bridge and getting soaked everytime the huge boat would go down the hill?

Your day looked awesome. The boys are getting more and more handsome everyday. You better keep a sharp eye out for all the pretty girls who will batt their eyes and say sweet things to them...(sorry. I just HAD to say that)

I know...I'm already DREADING that day! In fact, I think kindergarten girls are already on the prowl! Yikes! I heard a quote one time that said "It would be much easier to keep boys from being boys if only you could keep girls from being girls." SO TRUE!!!!
