Home of the Brave

Tonight we took the boys to their very first baseball game!! We purchased "All You Can Eat Seats" where you get all you can eat (obviously) popcorn, peanuts, hot dogs, nachos and cotton candy!! Mmmmmm!! The game was the OKC Redhawks versus the Memphis Redbirds. We arrived at the Bricktown Ballpark about an hour early and made our way to our seats!!
The first 1000 guests received a free bat!! Of course, the boys were PUMPED about this!! I was kind of nervous considering the boys were about to carry two very large bats into the stadium and into very crowded rows filled with strangers...

Since we purchased the all you can eat seats we started eating right away!! And why not!?!? Ash chose popcorn first and Maddox chose cotton candy...but believe me, by the time we left we had all eaten almost one (maybe two!) of everything!! I totally think we got our monies worth!!

The view from our seats...
We found out, on about Ashtyn's third bag of cotton candy, that it was staining his tongue, teeth and basically entire mouth and face pink and blue!! He was covered by the time he got finished!!

The game was fun but a bit uneventful for a three year old. By the top of the 2nd inning (that's right...only the 2nd) Maddox was already restless. We got him MORE food and MORE food and MORE food and even let him play games on our phones but Maddox only wanted one thing...

HIS BAT!!!! We had made Maddox put his bat behind the seat during the game because we knew (beyond doubt) that he would hit both the people in front of us, behind us and possibly on either side of us!! HA!! After a couple more innings Maddox made it quite clear that he was done sitting, but we pursuaded him to hold out just a bit longer...

Ashtyn, on the other hand, had a GREAT time!! Sure, he also played a couple games on the phone here and there but for the most part he sat nicely and watched bits and pieces of the game!! He got really excited when they would play games on the field with audience members and he got even more excited when they started throwing t-shirts up into the stands. We never got one but not for lack of trying!! Ash was up on his feet every time waving his arms and screaming!!
OK, now it's confession time...we only made it to the bottom of the 4th inning before we decided to leave. We really wanted to stay longer and even more then just wanting to watch more of the game there were fireworks scheduled at the end of the game that we really wanted to see...but Maddox just wasn't going to make it that long and we had eaten all we could eat so we decided to take the boys for a walk around the ballpark and then head home. It may have been a short evening but it sure was a sweet one!! It was well worth it!! We did learn during our first family baseball game that we probably need to make our 2nd game during the daytime and next time we'll probably just buy general admission tickets. The entire rest of the stadium wasn't full at all and people even had entire rows to themselves but the all you can eat section was PACKED!!! We were shoulder to shoulder, which was fun, but a bit overwhelming. Overall we had a great night and we'll definitely do it again!! GO REDHAWKS!!!!

Looks like you have a blast! Suggestion ... don't get to the ball field until the game is about to start or has already started. Maybe Maddox can last longer that way!

You said "It may have been a short evening but it sure was a sweet one!!" ... and for Ashtyn that was a literal statement. How much sugar did he eat?

Mom, Ash ate WAY TOO MUCH cotton candy. With those all-you-can-eat tickets he just kept going back and getting more every chance he could. I don't know what the total count was but he was hyped up on sugar for sure! And, you're right, next time we'll get there RIGHT on time!
Tiff...HA!!! We really have to get them together sometime! I think we just wouldn't stop laughing!
