Tangan...what!?!?

Today was Day 2 of Camp Cousin and we braved the threat of storms to drive to Wichita and visit Tanganyika Wildlife Refuge!! We first went to Tanganyika our very first Camp Cousin two years ago and at that time it wasn't completely built and so we had gotten in for a discount and we were only able to see a few animals. It was SO cool even then, though, that we had to try it out again!! This year it was just what we had remembered...but WAY BETTER!!!! They had many more exhibits and, of course, alot more animals!!!! What fun!!!!

One thing they had this year that we were pleasantly surprised by was the interactive animal exhibits where you could actually go INSIDE some of the animals cages and pet them, feed them and just walk around with them!! The first one we came to was the kangaroos!!

Then we turned the corner and saw the rabbits and turtles!! For some reason, my boys were both a bit afraid of the rabbits (Ash thought they were chasing him...!?!) So, we moved on to the turtles!!

We couldn't go inside the goat cage but we could pet them. I think the goats thought we were going to feed them though cause they were REALLY excited to see us but then when they realized we were only their to pet them they sorta got bored with us...

We felt a bit torn when the kids wanted to play on the park...I mean, we didn't pay $12 bucks a person to play on the playground but we let them play for awhile!! HA!!

The penguins were NOT in the mood...they never moved...

The last interactive exhibit we did was the lemur cages!! We were sort of shocked when we realized (without warning) that the lemurs would jump up on you!! Both Uncle Kevin and Aunt Kiki were lucky enough to get up close and personal with a lemur. Ashtyn, of course, was a bit afraid of the lemurs and didn't want to stay inside the cage but by the end of our trip into the lemur cages he was beginning to calm down. In fact, when we left the lemur exhibit Ashtyn said "I think when I get a little bit bigger I will want the lemurs to climb on me!"

I just found the ducks to be cute!!

This little baby monkey with its mommy was SOOOOO cute!! It would toddle all around the wooden platform and then amazingly the mommy monkey picked up the baby (who clung to the mom for dear life) and began swinging from the ropes full speed!! It was awesome!! No joke, as we were watching this teeny tiny baby monkey interact with its mother Ashtyn said "That made me almost cry or something!!" He is so sensitive. His comment almost made ME cry!!

Finally, we ended our trip with a visit to the gift shop!! Maddox chose an animal print pencil and Ashtyn chose a Tanganyika themed deck of playing cards!! We've already played a round of Go Fish with his new wildlife cards!!

Day 2 was awesome!! Sure, it was muddy and wet and the clouds rolled in towards the end of our visit and it began sprinkling on us but it was still fun!! Tomorrow we have another day jam packed with fun-ness!! Hope to see you there!!
