dorito rain

FROM "A LESSON LEARNED"
Have you seen the movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs? It's a really cute cartoon movie that my kids love...and, I'll admit it, so do I!!! It's the story of a young inventor who lives on a remote island far from any civilization whatsoever! This misunderstood inventor began creating when he was very young but unfortunately each of his inventions eventually backfired and so his reputation was not-so-great to say the least. The people of his tiny island had lost faith that anything he ever invented would be helpful or even safe! One day, however, our belovedly awkward and lonely smarty pants inventor came up with something revolutionary! You see, this small remote island was known for one thing. It's revenue was based on one product. They ate, slept and breathed one tiny disgusting and smelly produce...SARDINES! Yuck! It's all the people ate and let's just say that life was flavorless, colorless and oh so boring! Until...the young inventor, who everyone had lost faith in, discovered a way to turn water into every delicious and craveable comfort food!! That's right!! With his newest and greatest invention our young hero could turn simple water into cheeseburgers, ice cream, jello and you guessed it...spaghetti and meatballs!! The people of this tiny island were finally free! Free from sardines! Free from boredom! Free from eating the same ol' same ol' day in and day out! They had steak, french fries, pizza and anything and everything you can possibly imagine! Now, in true movie form, through a series of twisted events and mishaps this yummy food producing machine gets shot way up into the clouds over the island! Because the machine makes food from water, it naturally begins to suck moisture from the clouds surrounding it and rains (literally rains!) food over the city morning, noon and night! Can you imagine! HA!!! As the food falls from the sky, however, people are sometimes taken off guard and often get hit right in the head by the food! One day, as we were watching the movie, Maddox turned to me and said something more profound then his young mind could have ever imagined. He said "Mom, you know why some people don't know that the food is coming down? Because they're not looking up at the sky!" WHOA!!
Lesson Learned? So often we don't know or see the blessings that are coming our way because we're not looking for them! We might be sitting in our home eating sardines while hamburgers and meatballs are falling from the sky outside! Whether it's because we believe we don't deserve the blessings or we just simply aren't watching for them we are missing out! Can you imagine? You're sitting in your home plugging your nose while you force yourself to swallow yet another bowl full of gag-worthy sardines totally unaware that yummy food is falling right outside your front door!! Who knows how long the blessings have been falling? Who knows how long you've been missing out...but who cares!? Get out there! Receive your blessing! Look up to the sky, open your arms wide and wait with anticipation for the deliciousness that is headed your way! Don't worry about where it comes from or whether you've done enough to deserve it...just enjoy it! I truly believe, and I know that I'm one of these people, that we so often wish hardships upon ourselves. There's something about living a christian life that makes us believe that we should "go without" or "be miserable" all the time. As if living in misery somehow makes us a better christian or will get us closer to God! Huh!? God is our Father! Have you ever heard of a father who wishes nothing but misery and suffering on his kids?? No way!! At the very least, fathers want to give their kids as much as they can and often give more then they should! They love to see smiles on their kids faces and see them enjoy their lives! The same is true with our heavenly father! He wants to lavish you with chicken wings and doritos falling from the sky! OK...so maybe not literally chicken wings and doritos but He wants to see you succeed and He wants you to be happy! Accept it! Thank Him for it! Enjoy it! And don't forget to keep your eyes open and look for the blessings! They are coming your way!

I used this story as an illustration with a friend the other day. She was needing the encouragement your story was giving. Thank you
