waterworks

First things first on day two of vacation, or actually our first full day of vacation, THE TOOTH FAIRY FOUND OUR CABIN!! Forget the fact that it took us a half hour to find it, the tooth fairy had no problem whatsoever!! When Ashtyn woke up bright and early (actually I think it was still dark! Ha!) he was excited to find a dollar underneath his pillow!! Now, I'm going to confess that THIS tooth fairy actually wanted to leave quite a bit more money for my oldest baby's first lost tooth but the fairy received some very good advice from older and wiser tooth fairies (with more experience) that with each lost tooth Ashtyn will expect the same amount if not more and so we started small! One dollar it was! But Ash didn't care. He just couldn't for the life of him believe that the tooth fairy had found him and remembered him and left him a WHOLE dollar!!
After breakfast we suited up and headed to the lake!! It has been such a HOOOOT summer and of all times for it to rain and cool off a bit it did it while we were on vacation. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the somewhat cooler temps but the day we arrived at the cabin it rained and then on day two it was overcast and looked like it could rain at any moment. Needless to say, because of the cloudy sky the lake water felt COLD!! We really wanted to jump right in and swim but believe it or not the water was downright frigid!! So, after dipping our toes in the icy waters we decided to rent some pedal boats first and have some fun ON the lake instead of IN the lake!!

Noni and Aunt Beck rode together...

April and Lauren rode together...

and, as you can probably tell, Maddox refused to ride. You would think that Maddox would be the go getter when it comes to anything athletic or daring and really when it comes to most anything he is...but not water! For some reason he is very cautious around the water and he takes his time to get used to any and all water activities. At first, Brandon and I were actually able to coax him onto a boat but then (of course) the boat we got him onto had to break when we had already pedaled out into the lake and another boat had to come push us back to shore. So, after that, Maddox was scared and stubbornly refused to get back on to any other boat.

So, instead, Papa took Ashtyn out on his pedal boat but only used half of their alloted time and then came back to the dock to let Brandon and I use the rest of their time for a float around the lake while he and Maddox shared snow cones safe and sound on dry land!

When Brandon and I went out for our turn on the pedal boats Ashtyn joined us too!!

After pedal boats we decided to give the lake water another shot. It was still freezing (of course) but we just had to get in!

Instead of actually diving in and swimming around, the boys started a full water war with their sand buckets! I think we all got at least a little bit wet but some got wetter then others!

Hoping that it would be hotter tomorrow (this is the only time we'll be wishing that believe me!) we got out of the water...

Ashtyn wanted to do the bumper boats and so he and a few of the adults went over to ride. Of course, with the pedal boat experience still fresh on his mind, Maddox wouldn't do the bumper boats but Ashtyn had alot of fun, as you can tell!! He convinced Auntie April to ride with him and I think that quickly became a decision she regretted! HA!! Ash was a bit of a crazy driver!!

While they were doing the bumper boats it started raining...AGAIN!! So we loaded up our stuff and went back to our cabin. You can't complain though when you're cabin is that cute!! After the rain had passed and the sun reappeared Uncle Tyler took us out for rides on his boat!! The boys were extra excited to go "SUPER SPEED" on the boat (as they call it)!! And, I'll admit, I was pretty excited too!! Maddox rode first, with Brandon, and surprisingly he went right aboard without a single fear. After the whole day of not wanting to go on the water I was worried that he would back out but I think he was being tough in front of his Uncle Tyler and put on a front that this whole thing was his idea! Ha!! He had fun though!

Two peas in a pod.

When it was Ashtyn's turn to ride Aunt Beck convinced me to ride with him but Maddox didn't like that idea AT ALL! I don't know if he just didn't want me to go on the boat because of separation anxiety or if he was being protective of me but he seriously threw a fit right there on the dock. I was able to get on the boat, though, and Ash and I went for a ride!

It was really cute because once we got WAY out on the lake and were approaching the dam Ashtyn screamed out "We're at the lake!!!" HA! I don't know if he didn't realize that the entire body of water WAS the lake, or that we had swam in the lake earlier that day or what, but for some reason once we were out in the middle of the water on a boat he realized that this was it! We were at the lake! It was really cute!

I have worked with children almost my entire life and I STILL do not understand some of their thinking processes! But I think you are right about being tough for Uncle Tyler!
