"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

great state of a fair
After taking Uncle Nay-Nay and Aunt Dana back to the airport on Sunday morning, after our wedding weekend in Ponca City, we had plans to visit the Oklahoma State Fair and also had bought tickets over a month ago to see Disney on Ice at the state fair!! We were more tired then we thought we would be after the wedding but we were still excited to spend some time as a family! We got to the fair a few hours before the Disney on Ice show was scheduled to begin and so we took in some of the sights, sounds and tastes of the fair! We had some fresh squeezed lemonaide and all shared a funnel cake! It was Maddox's first taste of funnel cake and he LOVED it! In fact, he tried to hog the whole thing!
Finally it was tme for our show to begin! Fair warning...if you ever atttend Disney on Ice (or probably any type of live children's show for that matter) be prepared for your wallet to run dry by the end of the night! My sister had warned me that it was expensive for snacks and souvineers but I wasn't quite prepared for just how expensive it really was! A bag of cotton candy with mickey ears was $10 each, popcorn was $7 and snow cones were $15!! And if you wanted a spoon for your snow cone you had to pay extra! NO JOKE!! And that's just the snacks! Then they have souvineer tables set up everywhere in the lobby and you have to pass by them on the way to your seats with your kids shouting "I WANT! I WANT! I WANT!" How can you resist!?!? Let's just say that we spent beyond the cash we had brought but it really was worth it! The boys were having such a good time and were so excited!
No surprise, Maddox chose a sword (themed like the one from sleeping beauty) as his souvineer and Ashtyn chose Mickey Mouse binoculars!
Mmmmmm!!
The set was really cool! We were seeing "Disney on Ice Let's Celebrate", a show where disney characters perform songs and dances from holidays and festivals around the world!
I was lucky enough to get this shot! I had the boys looking at me with big smiles when suddenly the lights went out and the show began! These are their expressions at the sight of the very first Disney characters skating onto the ice!
First, we celebrated birthdays with the cast from Alice in Wonderland...
Then Mickey did a scene from Fantasia!
Ashtyn really got into using his binoculars! The skating brooms were really cool!

Next up we celebrated Halloween with all the Disney villians! Maddox really loved this scene and so did I! The Pumpkin King was awesome!

When the wicked queen tried to get Mickey to take a bite from her poisoned apple the audience had to shout "BOO!" as loud as we could to scare all the bad guys away! It worked! Mickey was safe!
Then we celebrated Valentine's Day with the Disney Princesses! I really loved this scene! It took me back to my childhood and I knew all the songs...but Maddox got a bit bored during this part. He "doesn't like girls"...

Next up, we had a luau with the cast of Lilo & Stitch! Maddox LOVED the fire dancers!

Then we traveled to Japan with Mickey for the dragon festival!
Then we headed on down to New Orleans with the cast of The Princess and the Frog!
Finally...we celebrated everyone's favorite! CHRISTMAS!!!
After Goofy Santa came down the chimney the cast of Toy Story surprised us by coming out of the wrapped presents on the sides of the set! I think everyone in the audience must have been waiting to see them because as soon as they popped out the entire audience erupted into screams and cheers! It was exciting!
