It's Friday!!!! And that means two things...one, the kids get to wear their camp cousin t-shirts today and, two, it's the last day of this year's camp cousin. It's a sad day and a happy, fun day all wrapped into one.
For our last day of Camp Cousin 2011, we went to Bricktown to see the summer kids movie!! It was alot of fun and we ate alot of snacks!! Then we drove to Norman to the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History. None of us had ever been to this museum and so we were exicted to see what it would have to offer. It was actually ALOT of fun!! I'll admit, I was kind of nervous. You just never know what you're going to get with a history museum. It could be fun for the kids or it very well could have been boring for them. I was prepared for them to be super bored and want to leave as soon as we arrived...but I was wrong!! The museum was oh so cool and the kids were really into it!! Especially the dinosaur portions of the museum...of course...!!!
When we turned the corner and saw these giant dinosaur skeletons all the kids gasped in excitement!!!! I was pretty excited too, I have to say!! It was awesome!!
This is just the top portion of a large dinosaur leg!! It was huge!! It really put into perspective how big dinosaurs really were!!
When we stopped to take pictures with the dinosaur leg bones, a few museum volunteers came over holding what we found out was a dinosaur PINKY TOE!!!! Huh!?!? I couldn't believe it!! It's HUGE!!!! And it was WAY HEAVY too!!!! A dinosaur pinky toe could literally crush a kids (or adults!) entire foot!!!!
OK...yes...this IS what it looks like. I know, I know...but when you're the mom of boys you just can't help but laugh when they find the mmmhmmm "privates" of every single animal in the zoo, museum or just backyard!! It's just something boys are born with!! And it was no different when we walked into the back atrium of the museum and saw a lifesized carving of a wooly mammoth only to find "this" hanging from beneath him. I think you get the idea...silly boys...
After seeing all the real dino skeletons, we went into the discovery room where they had many hands on activities for the kids to touch, play with and learn from. They had puzzles, books, fish tanks, a magnet board, coloring, ancient artifacts and a dinosaur bone digging zone!! We'll definitely be heading back here sometime very soon!!
The last portion of the museum was to go upstairs and see the Oklahoma history exhibits. We also discovered that upstairs you can view the large dinosaur skeletons from the second floor!! It was awesome to look down on such large animals, and the boys got to take a picture with their heads at eye level!!
If you've never been to the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History then you should definitely go!! It really is alot of fun and someday I'll take both my boys back and will probably even plan a trip with just Ashtyn so that we can take our time and read more of the dinosaur and history facts.
Camp Cousin 2011 was SO much fun!! We ended the evening by meeting the dads at a local italian restaurant for dinner. We were all very tired but the meal was awesome and we all had a chance to visit. That night the kids were asleep early and I was even in bed and asleep before 10:30!! Which is crazy early for me!! It was sad to see another camp cousin come to an end but I'm already excited for next year!! In 2012, we'll have two new baby cousins in the family (Rae is having a little one in February and Brandon's brother and his wife are expecting in January!!) so camp cousin is growing!! Woohoo!! The more the merrier, that's what I say!! Keep on having those baby cousins!!
