"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

failed trial
If getting the boys up for church this morning was ANY indication of how it will be once school starts we could be in BIG trouble!! Ha!! We had to be at church extra early this morning (but not quite school early...) and so I thought of it as a school trial run. I tried to get the boys up peacefully at first, simply turning on the lights and whispering "it's time to get up". Then eventually, I talked a little bit louder and finally pulled the covers off of them (which I hated as a kid!) and told them a bit louder still that it was "time to get up". Maddox was in my bed and one time when I walked into my room to check Maddox's getting-up-progress, he had reached over and covered his whole body with a pillow!! Ha!! Long story short, it was kind of a rough morning. Eventually I got the boys up, got their teeth brushed and got both of them dressed but it wasn't a walk in the park for sure! They were whiny and cranky and pouty and just wanted to sit on the sofa and watch cartoons. I guess I can't blame them but after today I'm definitely bracing myself for not only the first day of school but the first few weeks!! Yikes!!
