Last week, we took our annual trip to Storybook Forest at Lake Arcadia in Edmond. This is our 3rd year to go! It's so much fun to walk along the forest pathway and meet a variety of different storybook characters who give the boys candy. Then after we finish the forest walk, we purchase hot dogs and s'mores ingredients to cook over a camp fire! It's one of our favorite fall/halloween traditions!!
We went to Storybook Forest on a school night this year and Maddox was so worn out from his school day that he fell asleep on the way to the forest...poor little Star Wars guy...
We had to stand in line for quite awhile before it was our turn to enter the forest...but we finally got to the front of the line and the boys were so excited!! So was I!! I think the entrance to the forest is SO cute!!
The first storybook character we came to was Rapunzel, or as the boys like to call her "Tangled"! Ha!! She dropped candy from her tower and she has pretty good aim because the boys each caught their candy right into their trick-or-treating bags!!
Then we visited the gingerbread house from the story of Hansel and Gretel...
good thing the wicked witch was captured in the end!!
We saw the giant shoe where the little old lady lives...
and the boys took their picture with Humpty Dumpty!! They look forward to seeing Humpty Dumpty every year!!
Pinnochio was in the forest...
and both boys tried their best to pull the Sword from the Stone. Neither of them were able to pull it out but Maddox ASSURES us that he felt the sword wiggle a little when he tried to pull on it!! Ha!!
At first, Ashtyn wasn't going to stand next to the giant spider web to take his picture because he thought it was real!! (I wouldn't go near that either...) But after I promised him it was just pretend he jumped in for a pic!!
About half way thru the forest, Brandon was getting a bit overwhelmed by all the kids running around along the storybook path!! Ha!! This is his scared face...
The boys got a piece of candy from the three little pigs...
and then looked into the brick house where the pigs were finally safe from the big bad wolf...who is stuck in the chimney!!
After leaving the forest, we found an empty campfire to roast our hot dogs and marshmallows!! And we shared a couple orders of nachos too!! Mmmmmm!!
Maddox scarfed down TWO hot dogs around the campfire and we all enjoyed a little too much chocolate!!
We ended up sharing our fire with two older couples from England!! They had really cool accents and went on and on about how wonderful s'mores are!! They were hilarious!! One of the ladies kept losing her hot dog right off the end of her skewer into the fire and the other old lady just laughed and laughed at her!! They were a hoot!! We're not a big halloween family but letting the boys dress up and going to storybook forest is one of our favorite things to do. We are also excited for this afternoon, when the boys come home from school, and we will carve pumpkins and then go to the fall festival and trunk-or-treat at our church!! Bring on the SUGAR!!
