"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

famous Freddy
It isn't very often that Brandon and I get to have lunch together. I know, I know...now that the boys are both in school all day I thought that we would get to have lunch together all the time, but it just hasn't worked out that way. People told me that once my boys were both in school I wouldn't even know how it happened but my day would somehow fill up and I would be just as busy as ever...and they were right!! But every so often we are actually able to sneak away for a lunch. It may be a fast food lunch but it's still a lunch! A couple of weeks ago, we were intending to go to Chick-fil-A but when we got near the restaurant we noticed that the Freddy's Frozen Custard that they had been building right next door was finally open and so we changed our plans last minute and went to Freddy's! We LOVE Freddy's!! When we lived in Edmond there was one nearby and we ate there all the time but then when we moved to Mustang we only ate at Freddy's when we happened to see one from time to time...but THANK GOODNESS they finally opened one nearby and so Freddy's it was!! Well, our decision to go to Freddy's wasn't only one rewarding to our taste buds but to our famous-person-o-meter as well!! As we were sitting in Freddy's, eating our yummy steak burgers and thin crispy fries we saw an older gentleman walk through the doors wearing an embroidered Freddy's button up dress shirt. He looked so professional and the second he walked in, the Freddy employees seemed to perk up and pay closer attention to their assigned posts. At the booth we were sitting in, there was an old black and white picture hanging on the wall beside us with a caption explaining that the picture showed the founder of Freddy's "Freddy himself" with his family after World War II. Brandon looked at the old man who had just walked through the door, looked at the picture and then said "I think that's the guy in the picture..." I laughed it off and didn't believe him at first but the closer I looked the more I agreed. Then I knew Brandon HAD to be right when I saw the professional Freddy's clad man walk right behind the restaurant counter and was instantly rushed by Freddy's employees wanting signatures on their work visors!! Ha!! This MUST be the REAL Freddy!! The founder!! The steak burger creator himself!! After Freddy signed every single employees visor he began making his rounds table to table speaking to each and every patron in his restaurant. We were suddenly a bit star struck and super excited for Freddy to make his way to us! When he came by our table we asked Freddy to sign our napkin (we had nothing else for him to sign...) and he simply said "I'll do better then that!" and pulled out some Freddy's coupons and not only signed them but also wrote a personal message. On mine he signed "Erika, thank you for eating at Freddy's! Have a good life!" Haha! What a funny comment! Freddy was very funny! He stayed at our table for quite some time telling us stories about how the Freddy's burger was invented and about how his dad began making them "on the farm" when he was little! It was awesome! I never thought I would WANT to meet Freddy (I didn't even know he existed!!) but once he was in the restaurant it was fun and actually really cool to meet him!! Believe it or not, and as cheesy as it sounds (and actually is), I bought myself a simple frame, put my autographed coupon inside and put it on the shelf in the office. I don't know if I'll keep it forever but it was an experience that definitely highlighted an otherwise mundane Thursday afternoon.
