5th Anniversary Camp Cousin Day #5

Camp Cousin Day #5 was our grand finale for the week and, of course, the kids were wearing their camp cousin tees! Stylin'! Today we went to the Science Museum. Exploring the science museum is always a camp cousin favorite! Even for the grown ups!

We started things off in the kid zone so that Noah could play in the baby section! Poor Noah kind of got left out of camp cousin this year. He's old enough to want to play but still young enough that it was hard to find activities that he could actually do. So he ended up just coming along with us and mostly watching the big kids play. So, of course, we couldn't leave him out when there was actually an activity he could enjoy. While he played with his mommy, the big kids and I went into the older kids section and worked brain teasers, blew bubbles and went down the fireman's pole in the fire house.

They also have a face painting station in the kids zone. Elia and Maddox both wanted to paint their faces!

Once he was done decorating his face, Maddox was oh so proud! The funny part was that he had written "OSU" across his forehead but wrote it while looking into the mirror and so it was backwards to the rest of the world! Ha! We didn't tell him, of course, and he was so excited to represent his favorite team!

There was a new exhibit at the science museum on this visit. It was a station where you could lay on a bed of nails! When you laid down the nails were retracted into the bed and after laying down you pressed a button to raise the nails, ultimately raising yourself right along with them! Crazy! Ash was the only one a bit nervous to try it but even he eventually got on! The kids were amazed!

Then we made our way to the theater to watch the Science Live Show. We've attended a different science live show at the museum before but it was a couple years ago and the kids were scared of the loud noises and we actually ended up leaving the show early. This time, though, everyone seemed very excited and ready to learn and experience some science!

We learned lots of fun things during the science live show. Today's scientist taught us about motion and wind and we even got to see a fire-nado (a tornado made from fire!) but it wasn't until the scientist asked for volunteers that the real entertainment began! MADDOX WANTED TO BE CHOSEN SOOOO BAD!!!! The teaching scientist told the kids that she would only choose the kids who were the most excited and acting the most crazy when she asked for volunteers and let me tell you...Maddox proved that he wanted to be chosen! He jumped right out into the aisle jumping up and down as fast as he could, his arms pumping in the air, spinning in circles and screaming at the top of his lungs! It was definitely just about as crazy as any one person can act and IT WORKED!!!! Maddox was chosen as a volunteer and ran right down the stairs and jumped up onto the stage! He's definitely my outgoing child. Throughout this entire ordeal, Ashtyn sat completely still in his chair, looking down so as not to make eye contact just in case that qualified him as wanting to participate! Ha! He's so much like me it's not even funny...

When Maddox got onto stage, along with two other child volunteers, the scientist explained that they would be used to conduct electricity. In other words, they would be shocking each other! All the kids were excited but Maddox's excitement reached a whole different level. At one point, the scientist tried to sort of freak the kids out by saying that if they conducted "too much" electricity they might actually "explode"...well, the other little boy volunteer backed off thinking the scientist was serious but Maddox didn't scare at all. Even when the scientist said "Who wants to explode!?" Maddox raised his hand in excitement. That made the scientist laugh! As the experiment concluded all of the kids grabbed hands and conducted a small shock through their touch. When Maddox came back to his seat he was still on a high from his science show debut but the only thing he said was "I didn't even explode!" I think he was a little bit disappointed! Oh good grief!

After the science live show, we found a flight simulation station and each of the kids earned their pilots license by flying the plane without crashing!

The climbing wall is always a hit!

This center was new on this visit too and SO COOL! It was a projection on the wall that alternated between butterfly shadows flying around the screen and colored gumballs falling from the sky. At first, we couldn't figure out what we were supposed to do but then after watching some others do it we knew that our bodies could altar what happened on the screen. On the butterfly screen, if you placed your shadow among the flying butterfly shadows the butterflies would land on you and then fly away.

On the gumball screen, if you got up right next to the screen you could actually catch the gumballs and alter their path.

Noah was such a good boy the whole day! He's the most laid back baby in the whole world!

I thought this contraption was awesome! It was a series of tubes with air running through them. The museum provided balls and scarves that you could place into different holes along the tubing and watch it blow its way through the wind tubes and exit at another location. There were even different trap doors you could open and close to alter the path of the scarves! Those scarves could MOVE too!

As always, we ended our trip to the science museum by visiting the gymnastics area! Fun!

Camp Cousin 2012 was a HUGE success!!!! Camp Cousin is tiring enough that we're glad we only do it once a year but every year, once it's over, we CANNOT WAIT for next summer to hurry up and get here! We just have so much fun that we can't stand it!

Once we were home from the science museum we got a text from Auntie April letting us know that cousin Natalie had worn her camp cousin onesie today too! She couldn't be at the science museum with us but she was supporting the cousin team from a distance!
