Before we left for a shopping day we had to get in one good belly shot of our new nephew before he came into the world!! I'm actually pretty jealous of pregnant Karianne. We kept teasing her because she wasn't swollen AT ALL and hardly looks 9 months pregnant!! No fair!!
Before we could leave for the day we had to take care of one more VERY IMPORTANT task. Our friend, April Wilhelm, who we grew up with in our youth group in Ponca City has spoken "whale" to both mine and Rae's kids while we were pregnant with them!! Ha!! It sounds crazy I know but it's sort of become this "thing". I guess because the baby is in water insdie we somehow assume that it MUST speak whale...and it probably didn't hurt that when I was pregnant with Ash Finding Nemo came out and so "speaking whale" was all the rage!! Ha!! (I'm cracking myself up!!!!) Regardless of how silly it seems, though, we couldn't let Karianne's baby come into the world without experiencing April's voice doing some whale speak and so we called her on the phone and had her give James some encouraging words via speaker phone before he joined the world. She'll probably kill me for eternally documenting this moment but I couldn't help myself!! So sweet!! Most definitely a memory to last a lifetime.
Once we finally left the house to do some shopping we went to a consignment store and the mall. Noah had a blast in the playground area until a baby, about his age, came up to him and just hit him on the arm!! Well, you would have thought that Noah had been attacked!! He gave his mommy the most pitiful, sad look I've ever seen in my whole life and then really let the tears flow!! It was SO sad!! That was the end of the playground!! Ha!! We walked around the mall until poor Karianne couldn't walk anymore and then headed home. She and Kevin had to finish getting ready to check into the hospital later that night.
I had the privilege of going with Kevin and Karianne when they checked into the hospital for Karianne to be induced Saturday evening. I could tell that Karianne was nervous but also very excited. Ready or not James...it's time to join the world...and this crazy family!!!!
They got a front row parking space!! Hallelujah!!
Oh the glamorous outfit they provide you when you're having a baby...
she still looks beautiful though!!
The check in process takes FOREVER, which you know if you've ever had a baby, but once Karianne was settled in for the night the whole family came up for a visit before things got too intense. I tried to explain to Noah that he wouldn't be the "baby cousin" anymore but I'm not sure he understood me...!!! (Or maybe he was just ignoring me...)
There was a moment before we all cleared out for the night that I was sitting in the corner of Karianne's hospital room messing around on my phone (ya know...twitter, facebook, pinterest, games...the usual...) and I looked up to see that every other person in the room was doing the exact same thing!! Ha!! Oh the world we live in today. I couldn't help but take a picture. EVEN Karianne is on her phone!! Ha!!
We didn't know how long Karianne would be in labor before James arrived but once Karianne was comfortable we all went home to get some sleep before the real show tomorrow...and to hopefully lete Karianne get some sleep as well.
