ooey gooey

Ashtyn has been going to occupational and speech therapy for several weeks now to help him with his sensory and eating "quirks". He is making slow but steady progress and we have been SO proud! Well, last week, Ash made a HUGE step forward when he baked chocolate chip cookies with one of his therapists and then...wait for it...ACTUALLY ATE ONE!!!! Whoa!!!! And these weren't burnt, crispy or chocolate-chip-less cookies (NO! NO!) they were hot, gooey and chocolate FILLED cookies!!!! Go Ash!!!! I felt a little bit weird taking video of my 8-year-old son eating a chocolate chip cookie in the parking lot of the therapists office but I just couldn't contain myself. I was SO VERY proud!!!! This was Ashtyn's FIRST chocolate chip cookie EVER!!!! I was even more proud (if that's possible...) when Ashtyn's therapist told me that Ash had put his own hands in the raw cookie dough and mixed it around and formed the dough into balls before they baked them!!!! Whoa!!!! Ash not only has an aversion to eating certain textures but he doesn't like to get his hands sticky or touch things that feel "weird" to him so this too was HUGE!!!! As soon as we left the doctor's office I sent this pic to all of my family with the simple headline "Therapy Rocks!!" and it's so true. Ash's progress may seem slow to some but to us it's HUGE!!!! We are so proud of and excited for Ashtyn!!!!
