"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

one dip of syrup at a time
Ash has been on quite a roll eating new foods! While at my sister's house over Christmas he tried something new yet again! I was making waffles for the kids for breakfast and as I was passing out their plates to them Ashtyn said "What does syrup taste like?" I did my best to describe it as sweet and creamy and he finally said "I want to try it!" He didn't hesitate, he didn't second guess himself and he didn't become frustrated and unable to decide if he actually wanted to try it. He simply stated that he WANTED to try syrup and only requested that I put the syrup in a separate bowl so he could dip his waffle. Sure enough, moments later, Ash was eating his waffle, dipping each bite into syrup and enjoying every taste! Wow! Now, I totally understand that "syrup" might not seem like a "new food" to most people...but when you have a child like Ash EVERY SINGLE BREAKTHROUGH is a big deal! The very fact that he asked for the syrup himself and didn't hesitate to give it a try is the ultimate breakthrough! He was able to overcome the mental fears of eating and trying something new without hesitation! Woohoo! I'm not in a rush to get him eating veggies or fruits or even meat...he's making progress and moving at his own pace and we're beyond thankful for that! Good job Ash! We are OH SO PROUD of you!
