"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

three boys...one adult...nuff said
I'll be the first to admit that sometimes school field trips stress me out. They're crowded, loud and when you're assigned other people's kids to chaperone you just never know what you're gonna get. I'm not a huge fan of surprises and that surprise in particular can be especially overwhelming! In Kindergarten, we went to the zoo...stressful! In first grade, we went to the Tiger Safari...chaotic! This year, though, we went to the Science Museum! I was excited about this trip! We wouldn't be outside in the wind and sun for kids to get "tired of", there would be multiple bathrooms so no matter where we were I could get a kid to the restroom for any bathroom emergency AND I felt somehow safer knowing that inside the Science Museum there was less of a chance I could lose someone else's child. Well...I was mostly right anyway! When Ashtyn's teacher split up the students I was assigned Ashtyn and two other boys. They seemed very nice and polite and they ended up being really good boys. It's always difficult, though, to keep up with THREE second grade boys at the same time, especially when those boys all have different interests. We finally worked out a system where the boys took turns choosing what exhibit they wanted to go to and we ALL went with them together to enjoy their choice. It worked out pretty well. I found out really quickly that one of my boys was super sensitive and the other was a sneaky escape artist! I could literally turn my head for one split second and when I turned back one boy would be GONE and the other boy would be pouting and moping. Ash, meanwhile, would still be standing at whatever exhibit we were at, totally engrossed. Sigh. The day went by quickly and it was ultimately successful. I enjoyed myself but was extremely tired by the end! It was a fun day but I'm still glad school field trips only come around once a year!
