"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

soda stream sized problems
A few months ago I had an accident involving one of our household appliances. No, it wasn't a serious burn from the oven or a cut from a kitchen knife while slicing vegetables...I wish it was something tough like that. Instead, I had an oopsie with our Soda Stream Machine. Yes, you heard me right, the silly Soda Stream Machine. The one small appliance you would think could never injure you! It doesn't heat up, it barely even uses electricity...but leave it to me to injure myself while using it.
I was trying to be nice and when I noticed that we were out of soda in our soda stream bottle I decided to make some more before Brandon came home from work. I filled the soda canister with water, hooked it up to the soda machine and pressed down on the top to fill the water with carbonation. That part went just fine. That's when the tragedy began. Unfortunately, for my own well being, I didn't read the soda machine instructions as carefully as they tell you to and instead of removing the soda bottle from the machine by releasing the pressure first and THEN pulling the bottle off, I just yanked on the bottle trying to get it off the machine. BIG MISTAKE!! The pressure build up in the bottle caused the bottle to literally SHOOT off of the machine and smash my pinky finger right into the kitchen counter. OUCH!! And I really do mean OUCH!! I knew instantly my pinky was broken. The impact of the bottle on my finger broke my skin and within seconds my pinky was turning purple and swelling. I didn't even notice until minutes later that when the soda bottle shot off the machine it sprayed carbonated water volcano-style all over my kitchen! Ugh.
Apparently, there's nothing they can do for a broken pinky and so I just had to wear a brace for a few days. It hurt bad but was really more annoying than anything...especially since it happened on my right hand! I guess I had to learn the hard way but let's just say that I DID learn my lesson...I haven't forgotten to release the carbonation pressure on the soda machine one time since!
