the principal and the pea

Ashtyn's 3rd grade school music program was VERY cute this year! It was titled "The Principal and the Pea" and was about an elementary school principal who retired so the school had to hire a new principal! The students wanted to make sure the principal that was hired would be fun and understand them and so they devised a plan to make a special soup for each principal candidate to eat. Each serving of soup would have a pea hidden in the bottom of the bowl and whichever principal prospect could taste the pea (AND dislike it!) would be the kids' choice! What could go wrong!?!?

As we were getting dressed for Ashtyn's performance he buttoned his own shirt. We are still working on getting our buttons even. I love seeing my handsome little men walk into the room with an uneven shirt hem proudly announcing they are "ready to go!" I almost hate telling them they need to re-do it but I know they have to learn.

I know, I know...I'm THAT mom who makes her kids take a variety of pictures in a variety of poses and in a variety of locations for each and every life event! Honestly, it doesn't even have to be an "event" it can be "we slept in today and we haven't done that for awhile" or "we made brownies!" I just can't pass up an opportunity to document my boys!

In the end the student's plan to trick the possible new principals into eating a yucky old pea worked! Kind of. Sure enough, just as they had hoped, after a couple of possible principals tasted the soup and LOVED it (thus deeming them unfit because they didn't taste the pea...) the last principle candidate tasted the student's soup and, sure enough, she HATED the taste! She knew there was a hidden pea in it immediately! The kids rejoiced and the principle was hired! What no one expected, though, was that even though the principal didn't like peas she loved brussel sprouts! So guess what was served every single day at lunch in the cafeteria! Uh oh!
