Camp Cousin 09...Turn Up The Heat

Today, our Camp Cousin plans included the OKC Zoo, ice cream downtown on the riverwalk and a living room camp out! First up...the zoo! It was HOT today! As you know, it has rained almost every other day of camp cousin and although the rain messed up some of our plans we weren't complaining about the break from the Oklahoma heat. Today, however, the heat was back. We arrived at the zoo right as the gates opened and hit the ground running.

After spending a few hours at the zoo and having lunch there the kids were definitely overheated and tired of walking. Elia wanted to be carried, Maddox was whining that his "feet hurt" and Ash was starting to want to take a turn in the stroller. We knew it was time to go. On our walk back to the car, Rae and I decided that at this point going downtown for ice cream wasn't going to be an option. I knew we had ice cream at home, and candy bars to dress it up a bit, so we just went ahead and drove home and made our own ice cream sundaes.

After ice cream, naps were definitely in order. (Sigh!) All the kids napped really well and then it was time to set up our living room campout! Rae and I schemed and planned until we came up with this living room sized fort! It wasn't perfectly put together and we had to put it back together a few times but the kids didn't mind and we had fun climbing around under it too! Before we could hide away in our tent, though, we had to have our "camp out dinner"! Rae and I fixed hot dogs, pasta salad, baked beans and potato chips and served it all on paper plates on a blanket in the dining room! YUM!

And what camp out would be complete without s'mores!?!? Sure it wasn't the traditional way of making s'mores (we made them on the grill) but they sure tasted good!

It was finally time to head into our homemade tent!

Ashtyn, Maddox and Elia were eager to climb in! Each armed with their very own flashlight they didn't waste any time starting our campout...

This is the face of a mom who has survived 3 1/2 days of Camp Cousin... :)

OH MY GOODNESS! OK...I have to preface this picture with a quick story. My parents have this home video of me and my sisters that my mom took of us girls just around our house and throughout the entire video all I keep saying is "Mom, take a picture of my foot!" I mean, seriously, that's all I keep saying. There's a shot of me outside on my bike and when I see the camera rolling I get off my bike and ask mom to take a picture of my foot...there's a shot of me and Rae in the tub and I lift my foot from the water and ask mom to take a picture of it...and that goes on and on and on scene after scene. Well, tonight, under the tent I was just snapping pictures of the kids and Ashtyn goes "Mom, take a picture of my foot!" NO WAY! Rae and I couldn't stop laughing! How does that happen!?!?

Luckily, these campgrounds had really nice bathroom amenities (he he!) and so the kids didn't complain when it was time to take a bath...
yep, they're putting bath water in their mouths...(sigh!)

I guess we have officially survived 4 days of Camp Cousin!
