Just as we moved to the Oklahoma City area almost 3 years ago the zoo was sending both of their female elephants to the Tulsa Zoo for a "vacation" where they were mated with the male elephants there so that the OKC Zoo could have their first ever baby elephant born in their zoo!! Well, about a month ago the Oklahoma City Zoo elephants returned where a 300-pound baby elephant was born about a week ago!!!! Ashtyn was SOOOOO excited to go to the zoo for his field trip because he wanted to see both the big elephants and, of course, the baby too!! We rushed straight to the brand new elephant habitat as soon as we arrived at the zoo and just had to take a picture of the sign. As we rushed up to the viewing platorm a zoo employe stopped us and said that we could go on up and look but the elephants weren't on exhibit today!?!? WHAT!?!? Oh man!!!! Both Ashtyn and I were so dissapointed. I don't know why the elephants weren't allowed to come out but there were alot of unhappy kindergarteners at the zoo that day...

She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

who let the elephants out??
Friday was Ashtyn's Kindergarten class field trip to the Oklahoma City Zoo!! Parents were welcome to come along and when Ash gave me the a-okay that he wanted me to attend I jumped at the chance!! I was looking forward to not only visiting the zoo but also spending the day just me and my sweet oldest boy!! That doesn't happen very often...
Ash was extra excited to ride the bus on his field trip. There's something about riding the bus when you don't get to on a daily basis that just sounds exciting, so Ash was determined to ride! We were given the option of driving our own car to the zoo (which I tried to get Ash to do...) but he wasn't buying it! So, we boarded the big yellow (non-air conditioned) school bus and off we went!!

So, instead of seeing real elephants we just wandered through the new elephant exhibit and through the new zoo museum that's in the same location. It was still fun but we sure would have LOVED to see some real elephants...

The weather really warmed up the later in the afternoon it got and so Ash and I made our way to the Children's Zoo area where they have a waterfall and creek that the kids can play in! Ash cooled off and moved some river rocks around creating dams and currents. He's such a little thinker!!

Every single time we visit the zoo Ashtyn begs to walk through the snake exhibit. He loves to see which snakes are poisenous and where each snake lives, etc. As much as he loves to look at them, though, he still has a healthy fear of them! (I have an unhealthy, exaggerated fear of them! Ha!) It took some convincing but I finally got Ash to take a picture with this huge snake. He didn't want to turn his back on the snake, even though it's behind glass, and so he tried to keep his eyes on the snake while I snapped the pic!!
Finally, before we left the zoo, we had to get some yummy snacks!! I got myself the very best thing the zoo offers...FRESH SQUEEZED LEMONAIDE!!!! Mmmmm!! And I hate to say it but I'm going to anyway, usually when we go to the zoo as a family I have to share this lemonaide with Brandon but today I had it all to myself!! :) Don't judge...
Ash got cotton candy!!
Our zoo day was a ton of fun, as you can tell!! On the way back to Ashtyn's school, riding the bus, Ashtyn fell fast asleep!! He was nodding off until finally he leaned over on me and snoozed the entire way back to Mustang. He was just so cute!! I do have to say, though, that Ashtyn proves more and more how much like his mommy and daddy he really is every single day. During the bus rides, both to and from the zoo, Ashtyn kept saying that the other kids were "being too loud" and that kids across the aisle "shouldn't be standing up while we're driving" and that the bus was "too bumpy"!! Ha!! I couldn't help but laugh!! Just like me and Brandon, Ash prefers his own space, peace and quiet and everything to go according to plan with everyone following the rules. He's just a mini Brandon and Erika combined into one little boy!!
