"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

hunt and gather
I always tease that Maddox is a grown man living inside a 7-year-old body and it's hilarious to think so BUT every now and then Maddox does or says something that makes me go "Oh no! He REALLY IS a grown man living inside a 7-year-old body!" and then it's somehow not as funny anymore. We had one of those moments just a couple of weeks ago when the boys were playing with legos. They were each building planes and ships and castles and, of course, the characters to go with them. After a bit of quiet play, Maddox came down the hall and said "Look, I made me and Grampa Mike out of legos!" He was so proud. He showed me all the details of himself and Grampa. They each had some characteristics unique to themselves and they were both dressed to go hunting. Maddox announced that the Maddox and Grampa Mike lego figures were GOING HUNTING! (Maddox CANNOT WAIT for Grampa Mike to take him hunting for real by the way...hence the hunting themed lego characters!)
I ooohed and aaahed over Maddox's self portrait and Grampa Mike lego portrayals. I told Maddox how cute they were and what a good and creative idea he had...and then he pulled out the "mommy lego"...dun dun dun. As soon as he said "I made you out of legos too mom!" I got nervous. You just never know with Maddox...and my fears were realized almost immediately. Maddox pulled the "mommy" character from behind his back and said "this one is you mom!" She looked pretty good on first impressions. I had a pony tail, normal looking clothes and I was holding something in my hand. That's when the other shoe dropped. As Maddox was pointing out all the details on the mommy lego he ended his explanation by saying "And you're not hunting with me and Grampa. You're cooking!" OH...MY...WORD...who is this kid!?!? I'm telling ya, there must be a perfect little girl growing up in the world somewhere who is the unique match for my Maddox. She is going to have to be a professional chef, do laundry with a smile and wait on this boy hand and foot. He's a mess! I almost fell over when he told me that not only was I at home cooking while he and Grampa were out hunting but the tool I was holding in my hand was to help me cook better. Good grief!
I love my little Maddox and all of his craziness...we may have to work on this "women in the kitchen" quirk though. Ha!
