Maddox lost ANOTHER tooth last week and he was excited to put his tiny tooth under his pillow and was eager to wake up the next morning and see what the tooth fairy left for him. Unfortunately, the tooth fairy was very tired the night Maddox lost his tooth and when her alarm went off at 6:30AM the next morning she realized she had forgotten to take Maddox's tooth and leave some money. Oops! I can now safely say that nothing wakes you up in sheer panic quite like remembering that your innocent, believing 7-year-old will be awake any minute and the magic of the tooth fairy could be lost in a single moment! I was wide awake without a single drop of coffee! I had to think fast. I snuck into Maddox's room, stood next to his bed, contemplating what I should do. Thankfully a brilliant idea (if I might say so myself...) came to me in the dark, fogginess of the early morning. Bing! Like a light bulb above my head!
I left Maddox's lost tooth tucked under his pillow and went and dug some cash out of my purse. I then snuck back into Maddox's room, one more time, and placed the tooth fairy cash on his windowsill. Fingers crossed, my plan would work! When Maddox woke up he staggered into my room, carrying his blanket and rubbing his eyes saying "the tooth fairy didn't come...my tooth is still under my pillow..." I dramatically responded in the most believable way possible telling Maddox I had heard of this happening before and told him to go check the windows in his room. He was suddenly more awake than when he entered the room and ran back to his bedroom. Moments later I heard the squeals from down the hall "THERE'S MONEY ON MY WINDOW! THE TOOTH FAIRY CAME!" Maddox was excited but obviously confused. He was telling everyone how the tooth fairy left his tooth under his pillow but left money on his window. This mama wins the "keep the magic alive" award when I explained to Maddox that I've heard that sometimes when the Tooth Fairy comes into your room at night and tries to take your tooth out from under your pillow if you move or make a noise the tooth fairy thinks you are going to wake up and so she will have to get out of your room quickly, leaving the tooth and placing your money on the windowsill on her way out of the room! (Don't be jealous of my story-making-up skills!)
Thankfully, Maddox BOUGHT IT! He actually felt special that this rarity happened to him and bragged that he "almost woke up" when the tooth fairy came to visit him. It was awesome! Per Maddox's request we put his tooth back under his pillow the next night and the tooth fairy took it away. What an exciting and magical morning! Childhood is a beautiful thing.
