shoo fly don't bother me

FROM "A LESSON LEARNED"
We've all experienced it. It's one of the most annoying things EVER! You would probably never think of it but once I tell you what it is you'll be saying to yourself..."YES! That IS annoying!" What am I talking about?? That's right...when a tiny fly lands on the screen of your TV while you're trying to watch your favorite show! Grrrrr! Is there anything worse then that??? There you are enjoying an intense moment on Lost or about to find out who the bachelor will choose when an annoying, pesky little fly lands smack dab in the middle of your TV screen! You can't focus. The fly is moving around on the screen...first he's on the main characters face and then, in an instant, he's walking around while "the big kiss" or major explosion happens on the screen! Ugh! You can't even seem to remember what has happened on the show while you spend 10 minutes shooing the fly away and ultimately swatting the fly and then returning to the sofa to attempt to catch up on what may or may not have happened during your fly hunting expedition!
Lesson Learned? Just like that annoying fly that causes us to miss major moments of our favorite show we so often allow tiny annoyances in our lives to overshadow and even take away from the big picture of life. There we are going through life enjoying every moment that comes our way, just like that great TV show, when suddenly something comes up! Sometimes something big comes up but far more often then not it's just something small that pops up and suddenly we aren't able to move forward. We allow this tiny little thing to block our view of what matters, to block our view of life. We begin to focus on that tiny "fly", or situation, and allow it to grow and grow. Before long that little problem becomes a big problem in our minds and we are no longer enjoying our life or what matters. We miss out on so many wonderful moments and wonderful opportunities simply because we can't get our focus off of that stinking fly! Often the fly DOES matter, don't get me wrong. We can't simply ignore the problems in our lives and never deal with them. If we did that we would never grow as people or as christians, but we can't let them consume us! We have to face our problem down and deal with it while AT THE SAME TIME keeping the big picture in view! You don't have to miss out on the big things because of the small things. Don't let them haunt your heart and mind. There's so much going on around you that is so much more important then that tiny little back fly! Don't miss out on your sons smile, the joy of your daughters dance recital, an A+ on a test or a raise at work because you can't get the annoyance of a pesky fly out of the back of your mind! Will you remember that "fly" 10 years from now or even 10 days from now?? Probably not! But you will remember what happened in your favorite TV show and you'll be talking about it around the water cooler tomorrow! Let go of the little things. Make a conscious effort to let it go and make memories that matter! Believe me, you'll remember that walk to the park with your kids when your son did a cartwheel for the first time or that day at work that your boss complimented your work much more then you'll remember how someone cut you off in morning traffic or when the lady at starbucks didn't put enough whipped cream on your coffee! Enjoy life! Love life! Don't sweat the small stuff! Find the silver lining and trust that God has everything under control!
